Dear Editor:
As one who has read the Bible through every year since 1985, I have to
say that Scripture is full of examples of God using storms, famines,
pestilences and wars to bring judgment on those who have consistently
ignored His calling them to repentance. The books of Jeremiah and
Ezekiel are chuck full of lengthy passages pronouncing such judgments.
It is also clear that God tends to pronounce such warnings for decades
before judgement falls. The reason is that He "takes no pleasure in the
death of the wicked, but rather that they turn from their wicked ways and
live." (Ezekiel 33:11a) And, when it comes to bringing judgment on
human wickedness, "He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish,
but everyone to come to repentance." (2 Peter 3:9) However, the plea of
His heart is clear: "Turn! Turn from your evil ways! Why will you die, O
house of Israel?" (Ezekiel 33:11b) This warning certainly would also
apply to "the house in New Orleans," i.e., the "house of the rising sun."
I heard C.N.N. report that serious hurricanes have threatened New Orleans
for 40 years, but the city has been spared until Katrina hit. It is
significant that 40 is the biblical number for a time of testing -- Moses
40 years on the backside of the desert, the children of Israel 40 years
in the wilderness, and Jesus 40 days being tempted by the devil. At the
end of 40 years of warning and wooing to repentance, New Orleans waxed
more and more rebellious until God's justice required Him to do what He
never wants to do -- destroy the city because of those who "corrupted his
way upon the earth." (Genesis 6:12b) God knows that if sin is not
repented of and is not judged, the land itself will be defiled and will
vomit out its people. He told Moses to tell the people of Israel to
avoid engaging in sexual immorality such as that practiced by the people
of Canaan because through such immorality "Even the land was defiled; so
I punished it for its sin, and the land vomited out its inhabitants."
(Leviticus 18:29)
Now, some have complained that innocent people died in New Orleans also.
Why would God destroy the innocent with the guilty? Scripture answers
that one too. God has His way of saving those who mourn and grieve over
immorality in their midst. However, those who don't grieve over the sin
in their midst share the guilt of that sin because of their indifference
toward it. In Ezekiel, God instructed an angel to place a mark on the
foreheads of those in Jerusalem who "grieve and lament over all the
detestable things that are done in it" (Ezekiel 9:4), and then he
instructed other angels bearing swords to "Follow him through the city
and kill, without showing pity or compassion. Slaughter old men, young
men and maidens, women and children, but do not touch anyone who has the
mark. Begin at my sanctuary." (Ezekiel 9:5) Clearly this means that
God's judgment will fall both on those who practice what God calls
detestable and on those who do not grieve over such detestable sins
practiced in their communities.
Where is the God of love in all of this? The God of love: (1) sent
Jesus to take the penalty and punishment for our sins; (2) offers us
forgiveness and a new heart if we are willing to confess our sins and
turn from them, i.e., repent; (3) warns us of the consequences of
unrepentant hearts that crucify Jesus afresh by refusing to accept His
grace that forgives and changes the heart; (4) is very, very patient with
us, warning us repeatedly of the consequences of unrepentant sin to spare
us judgment; and (5) brings judgment to purge the land of defilement lest
it spread like a cancer and destroy more and more lives. YES, even
judgment is an act of God's love as it is aimed at eradicating defilement
before whole cities and nations collapse from within through moral decay.
With Katrina, we have seen efforts to move people to places of refuge.
God's love and mercy is also demonstrated in warnings to get out of the
city before judgment falls. God called Lot and his family out of Sodom
and Gomorrah before judgment fell there due to homosexual perversion
(Genesis 19), and, using the term "Babylon" to refer in biblical typology
to the corrupt world system, He calls out to His people to "Come out of
her, my people, so that you will not share in her sins, so that you will
not receive any of her plagues." (Revelation 18:4)
I know a lot of people cannot understand how a God of love could send
disaster, judgment and death. Yet they can understand how a caring
surgeon would kill a cancerous tumor before it kills an otherwise healthy
person. God does not delight in the death of the wicked, but if they
will not turn from their wickedness, His love will force His hand to
bring judgment upon them before their sin spreads and brings more and
more defilement and corruption.
The message of Bible is not one of hatred, and I personally do not know
any Christians who hate homosexuals. If they do, they are not true
Christians because Jesus died for all of us regardless of our sins.
However, even in the New Testament, even in the Gospel, there is no
forgiveness without repentance. The good news is that God gives us the
grace and strength to turn from our sins: "For the grace of God that
brings salvation has appeared to all men. It teaches us to say 'No' to
ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright
and godly lives in this present age." (Titus 2:11, 12)
If you are a homosexual, Jesus loves you and died for you just as He died
for heterosexuals. He has the power to give you a new heart and new
desires. He is God incarnate, and He took the punishment for your sins
and mine. He is the corporate Head of a new humanity, and when you ask
Him into your heart, you are born of His Spirit into that new humanity.
"If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new
has come! All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through
Christ." (2 Corinthians 5:17-18a) I would encourage you to take that
leap of faith and ask Jesus, the God/man Who died for you, to come into
your life and make you new. He will!Sincerely, --Mark

I am writing personal email to some of the gays that have posted
message...not hate male. Trust me, my intention is to see them make a
change. I write directly them. But your email blew me away. It makes no
sense. You stand for nothing. You said "I personally do not condone
homosexuality as a Catholic," and "I welcome you in your festivities
tonight. Have fun and be safe." and "pray for you that you have the strength
to continue to be yourself." Your comments condone homosexuality.

I don't give a rats ass whether your gay, straight or like to do animals, if
the Gay community wants to further it's agenda this is a big mistake. What
would be appropriate at this time of crises for N.O. would be for the Gay
community to show some goodwill and go to N.O. to help the victims. Forget
Christians, I don't think any American with any common sense would agree
with having any partying going on while so many people need the help of all
Americans including the Gay community. Just because Christians think this
was caused by gays does not justify such a despicable act of selfishness.
Forget about Christians the American public will not soon forget this.

Dear Rip,
I had to write to let you know that I got a hate phone call on my cell. At
first I thought it was someone joking with me. They said I hear you fags
didn't get to celebrate Southern Decadence this year. I thought it was a
joke and replied Next year we'll be back the caller replied so will AIDS.
I was wrecked. I can't believe that in a situation such as this where so
many people are displaced that someone would waste their time bashing me and
the gay community. All in the name of a God I am not familiar with. What
happened to love thy neighbor as thyself. I thought the looters on Canal St.
took the human race to a very low spot but for someone to think that the
hurricane happened because of God punishing the people of New Orleans is just sick!
Typical of all hypocrites and radicals their phone call was restricted. I
will make it a point in the future to make sure my cell phone number is not
publishes so assholes like this can't kick me when I'm down.
Southern Decadence and New Orleans will survive and be back bigger and
better.

Subject: A Christian Impressed By Your Openness
Date: Sunday, September 11, 2005 3:31 AM
I must say I am impressed by your openness to post, without comment the opinions of what might be called your "enemies".
I agree in many ways with my brothers and sisters who have written before me, but with exception and apology for those who have been unkind. I think sometimes some of my bretheren forget what God has said in His Word, the Bible:
Romans 5:8 "While we were yet sinners, Christ died for us".
It's true, anyone who is truly a Christian is only that because he or she realized they were a sinner and confessed that to God and asked forgiveness from His only Son, Jesus the Christ. All men are born sinners, and sin because we are a fallen people; not just homosexuals sin; all men and women sin in one way or another, and God calls us to repentance only because He has a better way for us.
So, if I call someone else a sinner, it really shouldn't be too shocking, I mean I was on too. I was raised Catholic, and yet I was a fornicator (as a straight person) and of course loved my sin, as many straights do. God did make sex to be enjoyable, and it works. But after reading the bible as an adult, and understanding that it was sin in God's eyes, I repented of my fornicating ways, and later got married (God's provision for regular, satisfying sexual outlet and procreation). I am blessed for listening to His call for repentance, and He has provided me a loving wife who does indulge my sexual appetite, maybe not exactly as I would always have it, but enough so I realized I am blessed.
I would have gone to hell for eternity just like any sinner for my fornication; as others do for stealing or raping or whatever; but when a man does trust Chirst alone for forgiveness of sins, that forgiveness is granted, and the man's slate wiped clean and God provides all our needs according to His wisdom and blessing. It's true that God does call homosexuals to repent, but not simply out of anger, but because He has a better way, and can provide all your needs and can even change your desires. When a person trusts in Christ, they are born again, and are truly, truly, no longer the same person. Do you feel born gay? Then be born again--I promise, the second birth will give you new eyes toward sex, and women, and marriage and children. God would not call you to it unless He was willing and perfectly able to help, and He is.
All sin is bondage, and after a while loses its pleasure. So, when the time comes that you yearn for something different, and clean, and good and productive, I urge you to read the bible. Unfortunately there are a lot of imperfect preachers (especially on TV), and even some wolves in sheeps clothing, so I tell you read the bible and then pick a church or preacher. God does call us to leave sin, but to love one another and He is patient and helpful; though people sometimes get in the way, do not ignore the still small voice that woos you to leave dirty things and pursue clean, wholesome, good ones. You will be blessed if you listen to that. No sinner is better or worse than another, and one cannot condemn another, but we can encourage each other to do what is best, and I say, explore the way God has outlined for men and women to live and see if somewhere deep inside it doesn't resonate as true and good. If it does seem alluring, ask God to help you and commit to Him that you will
listen to His instruction and He will listen, and He will forgive without any condemnation (For Christ paid that cost) and He will heal and strengthen you to live differently, and to enjoy it.
Anyone who is born again is indeed a totally new creature, with new eyes, a new will and a new heart.
I do apologize for my bretheren that offend you by forgetting we all were once sinners and that we all do sin in our actions or attitudes from time to time, I know that only drives people away. The Lord is Kind, Merciful, slow to anger, and quick to forgive. He has compassion on the sinner and will show anyone a new and better way. In His hand is healing and provision for every and all needs, from food and friends to sex and work. He has pleasures beyond human understanding in the next world for those who love Him and follow His excellent ways.
May you all continue to be blessed by the Lord God and learn His excellent ways that I may call you bretheren also both now and in eternity.

Is it just me, or has anyone else noticed that the people that are condemning the gay lifestyle are the exact same people who CAN'T SPELL and/or are grammatically challenged??? I contend that the higher the education, the more tolerant you become. This is not to say that all uneducated people are intolerant, but the trend does seem to point that way.

I think it is now time to pray for all those who
desire the flesh and are wicked in sin. i do
not judge, but, it is a wake up call! God has
rained on the just and unjust because of the
way this country is headed. When we first took
God out of school, the devil stepped in and the
killing started. Now we take God out of the
courts and public places and remove his
commandments. I pray that all or some of those
who desire the flesh more than God will at least
stop and seek the kingdom of God. It took me
44 years to find God and his true meaning and
a true relationship. I just pray but will not condemn
anyone. There is one thing i do know---There is a
heaven and there is a hell--- Are you sure where
you are going. Don't be mislead by false profits but
seek God for yourself. Ask Jesus Christ into your heart
and god will show you the way!

Let me get this right...
My loving God sent the storm to NO to stop homosexuality. He didn't care about the thousands of innocent homeless people, the innocent dead floating in the streets, the starving dying old people and babies, but used them as a lesson to homosexuals.
No, I don't think so.Bible or not. My God doesn't work that way.

god is an forever loving . he would never hurt us. he continues to love and watch over us. despite katrina look how many people were helped and are still continuing to get help. there is a reason for everything and i guess for some we can think of them as lessons or trials we have to over come in life. when we leave this earth in death - can you honestly say what good you've done for others not just yourself and what we have accomplished.
so don't think this is a punishment to the lifestyles of others ;because if it were then this whole world would have been judged and not just N.O. MY PRAYERS ARE FOR ALL AND ESPECIALLY ALL THE KATRINA VICTIMS.

Subject: Interesting comments from the right wing zealots
Date: Friday, September 09, 2005 10:12 AM
It is with great sadness that I read all of the comments from the religious zealots regarding Hurricane Katrina. I can't believe that people can take a tragedy like this and use their hate and bigotry to try to benefit themselves.
I grew up in a conservative Christian church. I have a full understanding of the Bible and today as a young, gay male still read this wonderful book. However, my understanding of the Bible is a bit different from what the religious zealots are trying to call Christianity. Growing up I was taught that being a Christian can be defined as knowing that Christ died for your sins, bringing Christ into your heart, and then extending Christ's love to the people of the world. There is nothing wrong with this! What a great gift to allow people to see Christ shining through you by the love that you show to others.
In the wake of Hurricane Katrina, we need to be showing love to not only the victims of this disaster, but all the people of the world. Think of your friend, family, and yes, even your enemies. All of them have one thing in common - they need love, compassion and peace. Let God be the one to judge others. I am not going to defend homosexuality as I believe that many people who have an opinion on it are unlikely to change their minds. However, I can say that if we as a people loved even just half as much as we hate, then we would be a pretty strong and kind nation. This is a time to let our best sides show. Not to judge, condemn or use for political gain. We need to help those in need.
Put aside our selfish thoughts and actions and just realize that the victims of Hurricane Katrina are hurting and need our loves, help, and support.
On Judgement Day, we will all find out the answer about whether or not homosexuality is a sin or allowed into heaven. I am sure that all of us will get a pleasant surprise.
I can't imagine a god who spent so much time creating our earth and universe and then populating it with plants, animals and humans that are all different. This God is so creative and loving that he still makes sure that no 2 snowflakes are alike. With all of this in mind, how can we even begin to say that God would turn away or disown one of his creations? Remember that God is Love, not hate or anything else, LOVE.

Subject: Some advice
For those homosexuals who feel everything is justified by faith n that they have not commited 'crime'. Unfortunately tt is yes n no cause in the end we will be judged according to our works n our rewards or punishment will come with tt judging done by God. I might get condemned for saying this but for all the homosexuals reading this. If u feel wat ur doing is correct n is indeed shining Christ's light to this world by the way u are living. Please do not be waviered by the arguements pp have posted pls juz carry on n believe wat u believe n continue living the lifes u are living now. Cause in Romans it says we will be judged according to out faith. Thus if u believe with all ur heart n feel wat ur doing is absolutely correct pls juz continue. And hello OF course God still loves u. Duh. Its not like we dont know tt seriously i think every christian in the depth of their heart knows God loves all of u!!!!i don't know abt the others but i'm not even trying to condemn ur i'm juz trying to offer a solution out as a sister in Christ if ur are willing to lend me ur ears.
However for those homosexuals we know they are wrong but still continue to walk in this path. Pls do repent. Once u know its wrong but u still continue its like 'rebellion' its like knowing the law but still breaking it. The punishment will of course be bigger.
As for those we are not Christians. Why don't ur try going to a church?u will experience peace like never before =D n NO ONE will condemn u. Or maybe u can go with ur frens? If pp condemn u, u can ignore them -.- they are not setting a good example so they can be ignored.
We can but advice n try to help ur see tt we feel wat ur are doing is not exactly rite. But u will ask in whose standard. I can only say from wat we read in the Bible. Everyone reads the same Bible but yet everyone has different interpretations. Thus we are letting ur know the interpretations we got from the Bible. That it is wrong, as already er largely quoted Romans 1. But if u still feel its not referring to u or that ur setting urself a good example as a Christian den ok. Pls continue as i have already mentioned up there.
Now abt the innocents God has 'destroyed' in this disater. So all those we are alive reading this feel very righteous n happy? Just because we are spared? NO. God is God He decides when u live n when u die. He surely does not need to explain to you why He killed so many pp does He? He has His plan. But its important to remember we ( the normal pp n the homosexuals alike) are still alive today not because we are MORE righteous then those who died but they died so that we can learn n indeed repent. Everything happens for a reason. If there is no pain no saddness no sorrow will we know was is joy n happiness? No everything comes in comparisons. Thus we should be all thankful God spared us n repent.
In conclusion pray pray pray.
In Christ's Great n Everlasting Love,

Alright, I have read each of the posts from those who believe "God has judged and condemned the gay and lesbian people of New Orleans and the Gulf South. Now, it's my turn.
Since the dawn of religion, people have used god's name for hate, prejudice, murder, and more evil to humanity than most can fathom. But we cannot blame these people. They act this way because "god and his ways" were taught to them at their mothers' knee.
Do you people understand that there were hundreds, if not thousands of ministers, priests, nuns, monks, rabbis, evangelists and other clergy who lived in New Orleans and the Gulf South? Did these holy men and women pray? I guess not, because the bible says:
And whatever you ask in my name, I will do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything of me in my name, I will do it. (John 14:13-14 NAB)
Again I say to you, that if two of you agree on earth about anything that they may ask, it shall be done for them by My Father who is in heaven. For where two or three have gathered together in My name, I am there in their midst. (Matthew 18:19-20 NAS)
If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask for whatever you want and it will be done for you. (John 15:7 NAB)
Where is he now? Where are his fantastic manifestations and where are his great miracles? Why didn't he answer the THOUSANDS of prayers from these Gulf South Clerics? Why in this day and time does god not prove himself, when in the past he had no problem with doing so?
We look at the ancient stories of pagan gods of times past and we say they are myths. Those gods did great miracles and manifested themselves daily. Those gods appeared to people in many forms and spoke to the people, or so the books tell us. Yet, we say those gods never existed.
What about the God of the bible. He manifested himself in whirlwinds of fire, in burning bushes, and spoke to many people. He performed fantastic miracles and proved himself constantly to the ancients.
In biblical stories, when someone did not believe, God proved himself to them, "so all can believe". Has god suddenly become shy? Has his powers dwindled to nothing? Or, like the pagan gods of yester year, has this god, too, proven to be yet another myth?
Come on people, it's time to bury your god, his bible and all the evil and hate caused by religion. Drink and be merry, love each other. God does not exist.

Shalom.
Barukh atah Ha-shem, Eloykaynu, melekh ha-olam.
What sort of God do some of these people believe in ? How can they think that a gay festival will cause God to kill thousands of straight people ? Why has He never done it before ? He has had 31 years (???) of the New Orleans festival; why now ?
I took the descriptions of 100,000 gay people simultaneously committing public indecent acts with a grain of salt-how could this happen ? It's mind-boggling!-but even if it was true, I cannot see God sending a flood that would miss all the gays who happen not to live in New Orleans and take the lives of thousands of straights (the dead cannot all be gay) and ruin the lives of countless others. Meanwhile, the out of town gays get away totally unpunished ! Does this make sense ? Or do these bigots (and littleots) think that God somehow didn't notice this ? Or that He would kill babies and small children to PUNISH SOME GAY WHO IS NO RELATION ???
Get a grip on reality, people. God doesn't operate on the same level as us puny, vindictive humans.

I too am a Christian and am embarrassed and saddened by the way Jesus is
being portrayed as we are to represent Him with love and compassion, not
hate and condemnation. I echo what the following devotional says: "I
have picked up a similar Jonah-like contempt for the Big Easy among some
who feel that sinful party city is getting what it deserves. This is a
dangerous attitude to have, in that wishing for anyone to get what they
deserve means that you must get what you deserve, too, and believe me,
no one wants to be in that position, because no one is righteous enough
to not deserve the judgment of God." The Bible says 23for all have
sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24and are justified freely by
his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. 25God
presented him as a sacrifice of atonement,[i

demonstrate his justice, because in his forbearance he had left the sins
committed beforehand unpunished- 26he did it to demonstrate his justice

is an awesome God one of love and compassion...and yes the occasional
scolding...to suggest he would take and destroy so many for something scheduled

would all be in line at the free clinics. I can only speak for me and i have
lots and lots of faults and my mind and actions are not always the right
way, but i thank my father God everyday for his compassion and understanding.
but those of you who love differently than some of us..please know there are
those of us Jesus freaks who do not judge and who are sorry for what i feel is
a misrepresentation of a loving awesome God who i also know many of you know
and pray to often. Anyway that is all I have to say and I appreciate the
opportunity to voice my opinion all I can judge is what is right and wrong for
me.

Subject: Dave's comment makes me sad

I personally do not condone homosexuality as a Catholic, but as an
American I fully support your every right to love as you want. It makes
me sad to see people like Dave be so judgmental. I think it is ignorant
for people like him to quote the Bible and then be so full of hate.
Instead of taking so much of his time hating the gay community, he
should really reflect on why he hates himself. I live in Lafayette and I
welcome you in your festivities tonight. Have fun and be safe. I am
proud to live here in America, Dave should be too.
As for the other comments, those ignorant people need to realize that
thousands of people died tragically. Celebrating that one may have been
gay is more disgusting than anything I have ever seen. Those poor
religious zealots have no idea the price they will have to pay for being
so hateful to God's people.
I am so sorry you have to endure people like that. I will pray for them
and pray for you that you have the strength to continue to be yourself.
Much love,
--Jeanie

One of your correspondents stated that:
'God made Adam and Eve.........NOT Adam and Steve .'
Complete nonsense, of course; God did not make Adam and Steve.........NOR
Adam and Eve.
Both those sets of couples ( and also Madame & Eve!) were produced by
evolution.

Have been to SD several times in past years. It breaks my heart to see what the hurricane has done to New Orleans. Can not believe the hatred of such homophopic jerks writing that SD is the cause for the destruction of New Orleans. Please continue to post the homophobic emails. I think they would like to get some email from some websites I know of. Online pharmacies LOVE to send daily email.
Hang in there, Dolls!

I am sorry to see that this has happened to New Orleans. It is an awful tradgedy. What is even worse is the representation of Jesus Christ by hate letters written to the people of New Orleans.
He drew me into Himself by His love. That caused me to do things a different way because I was looking for a REAL love. I wanted something different in my life.
Why would people want to come to an angry hateful God? That is not what people are looking for.
If it is love that draws us, HIS love, then it will be love that keeps us. Please put your hatred and condemnation and judgement away.
Yes God does have a standard for living, but what you are doing is not drawing, it is driving people away.
I pray for the people of New Orleans and what has happened.
God will help those who call on him.

And on a side note: most of those who would have celebrated Southern
Decadence were tourists. Because of Hurricane Katrina, we've simply remained
at home for the weekend. Unfortunately, those who've experienced the worst
of 'God's fury' have been the residents of Southeast Louisiana and coastal
Mississippi.
There are few times in the Bible where God made the decision to punish the
innocent along with the wicked. But never does he punish the innocent
INSTEAD of the wicked.
After the great flood, God promised he would never send water to cover the
Earth as punishment. That means if you think God is using this type of
natural disaster as a way to teach people a lesson, then you consider God a
liar.
As a Christian, I find it offensive that any person should attempt to spread
such vicious lies in the name of Christianity.

Seeing though God said all these things about Soddom and Gommorah thousands of years ago, and predicted its destruction, and it came to pass...do you think its a coincidence that New Orleans (a City Built on Sand, which the bible also said would not prevail against high winds and rising waters,) known for being the MOST SINFUL and evil voodoo, withcraft, irreverent city in the U.S., was destroyed in the wake of this hurricane? Do you think San Fran will have a larger earthqauke than the one 100 years ago? And if you DID believe such things, what could the homosexuals among us POSSIBLY do with such beliefs? Leave the lifestyle alltogether and bear the burdan of the cross of gay tendencies and turn to God and His Godly ways? Wouldn't that be a boring life? A pedophile once said to me, "but I can only love a young child the way I do and I am not turned on by people over age of 18...) or (nothing is wrong with loving a child the way I do, as long as I am not abusive or forceful, and its NO ones business what my sexual preference is...I'm not hurting anyone...the children I love have been consensual...I make my advance, and they let me...so I am doing no harm...) is the same thing has the gay rights movement? The argument seems to be the same but there a big difference... Its LEGAL for homosexuals like us to engage in sexual relationships, but it wasn't ALWAYS, just like its now unlawful to engage with under the age of consent people....... Do you think they would ever lower the age of consent to say, 12? Would you and your organization like that?
I'm just curious... (not BI_curious...just CURIOUS)

You don't know very much about faith and God if you think he did this to
punish people who were going to attend Southern Decadence. God never
punishes innocent people for someone elses sins. The people who were
going to attend Southern Decadence weren't there yet, so God would NOT
have punished the entire population of the area. Maybe you need to read
your Bible more closely.

Subject: I apologize
Dear Editor,
I want to apologize on behalf of Christianity for the rude and cruel comments I've read on this page in the name of "people speaking for God." The hurtful names, finger pointing, and filthy language I am reading from people who are supposedly professing to be "Christians" simply makes me wretch. I can see now why people wear shirts that say things like, "Jesus, please save me from your followers!" Were I an unspiritual individual and bombarded with comments like, "You're a fag and God hates you" and "You queers really got it good from Katrina, didn't you?" that would give me grounds to never set foot in a church or crack open a Bible; after all, if having a relationship with Jesus would make me more like you (meaning the insensitive zealots), why would I want to be like them?!
I am a believer in Jesus and the sacrifice He made for all mankind; and I also believe that if Jesus were walking around today, he certainly would not be calling members of an alternative lifestyle "queers" and "fags." Jesus both preached and practiced love as evidenced by his dealings with people living alternative lifestyles: He hung out with the forbidden and the forgotten members of society: prostitutes, tax-collectors, adulterers, criminals. While it is true that He did not wink at sin, (think the money-changers in the temple and when Jesus went medieval on their butts with that whip!) He had great mercy and love for all who came to Him. The same holds true today because He never changes. God loves the people of New Orleans; the poor, the rich, the breeders, the divas. ;) I've known a handful of people who lead alternative lifestyles and they (along with Asians and little elderly black men and women from the Deep South) are some of the nicest and friendliest people I've ever met.
And to the name-calling Christians posting here, let me offer my two cents to you as a sister in Christ: before you go searching for the toothpick in your brother's eye, make sure you yank the 2 X 4 out of your own eye first. You can't throw Bible quotes at people and not follow it yourself.
May God be your light in this darkened hour of tragedy and trial, people of New Orleans. Please be safe.

As a gay man in DC and watching all the horror in N.O. and surrounding areas
it saddens me that people find this a prime opportunity to get on their soap
boxes and preach hate.
While as a Christian I believe this to be a wake up call for the entire
country not just N.O. I dont believe that he was aiming at all the gay men
and women who were coming to have a good time and celebrate the end of
summer. I believe he was talking to everyone and saying.. patience,
acceptance and love are the only proper ways to treat people.
I pray everyday for everyone there.. and hope that N.O. and its people will
come back stronger than ever!
Keep your head up young person!
Thanks
