LAFAYETTE, LOUISIANASpring Is In The Air
The Spring Season is always a party time filled with continuous events. Since our last Ambush issue, we have enjoyed the excitement of Downtown Alive, Festival International de Louisiane and many other festivals for which our area is so noted!
An added bonus this time of year is the "unveiling" of those hard bodies which have been covered with layers of clothing through the winter-love those muscle shirts! As I lie next to my pool, I gain a greater respect for those of you who keep the weight in proportion and display a huge sense of dedication to exercise and build muscles for the rest of us to enjoy.
An Active Acadiana Community
It was a great feeling to see so many members of Acadiana's Gay community participating in the yearly March of Dimes WalkAmerica. The purpose of this event is to raise money for the fight for healthier babies. Although a great cause, the 6.2 mile walk has left a few of us sore and needing an entire year to convince ourselves to do it again.
Ted Richard, who has been actively involved in the education and community services for AIDS/HIV, has been named the Director of A.A.A.A.A. (Acadiana Area AIDS Advisory Alliance). This non-profit organization will provide advocacy work for any one diagnosed with AIDS or HIV+. The new association is in the process of establishing a Board of Directors and would greatly appreciate any assistance you can provide. Those interested can contact Ted at 318.267.7886 or visit the office located on the second floor at 125 S. Buchanan in Lafayette.
Don't miss the feature article by Jay Norris in this edition of Ambush. Jay, who has written for the magazine for several years, is now going to be writing monthly feature stories for us. His column focuses on Ted Viator who, prior to this column, was probably best known as the Captain of Apollo.
On June 6 remember to show your support for Walt Disney in the "Stand Our Ground" by visiting your local Disney store and purchasing an item. This day we all need to show our support for Disney and their decision to stand up for the Gay community.
Out And About
The social scene in our area continues to prove there is something for all. Our latest party excursion began early at the Sound Factory. Mark's charm set a positive tone for an eventful evening. It was great seeing so many of you with whom I had lost contact. Jules was filled with partygoers inside and on the patio. MoJo Monkey's music mix allowed for belly rubbing and great conversation. Our clubs contribute a full night of fun and entertainment each furnishing a distinct, enjoyable atmosphere.
John Gillan keeps providing our area with the utmost in entertainment. His night clubs proudly host preliminaries to Miss Gay Louisiana, Miss Gay Lafayette at the Sound Factory & Miss Lake Shores will be hosted at Crystal's on June 12. These events are definitely listed on the must attend.
Special mentions...Troy Romero, a great source of information. Chili Pepper...a joy to be around. Stephanie and Brady...let's get together soon. Keith, are you hiring? Eureka, where have you been? Randal, I had a wonderful time. I am ready to go again. John, glad you enjoyed the Ambush web site & see paragraph 2.
Whether your plans for the Memorial party holiday include the Cajun Heartland State Fair, the festivities in Pensacola or, like myself, gathering with friends at our local hot spots, have a wonderful time and please be careful!
