BATON ROUGE, LOUISIANAApollo's King, Queen
For Bal Masque XVIII ChosenIt was another important meeting of the Baton Rouge Apolloites that saw a couple of Texans selected to make their royalty debuts at the 1999 Apollo Bal Masque XVIII. Nathan Wright and Joel Jones will succeed Sam Favaro and Jim Anding as the men of Apollo present their next fabulous ball. The theme will be "A Night At The Opera, or It Ain't Over Till the Fat Lady Sings!" and Joe Boniol and Les Mut are well on their way to becoming great two-time ballers. My, but that does sound sexy!
What I mean to say is that Joe and Les will again lead the Apollo men to a night of revelry unmatched in the annals of Red Stick history. If it's great balls you want, you have only to look to the men of Apollo to produce them. It all started way back when Larry Fremin, Baton Rouge's master floral specialist and owner of Four Seasons Flowers and Gifts, decided to get a group of guys together for fun and friviolity. It has evolved over the years into one of the major functions of the Mardi Gras season. From the group's first king to his present position as one of the ball lieutenants, Larry has helped to maintain the high standards for which he originally planned for this group.
Membership is again on the grow, but there are still a few openings for those interested in becoming one of the few good men. It's not all glory here, darlings. There's lots of work getting to that big night when the costumes will be on display for all to see, but there are plenty of good times to be had with krewe meetings, important parties, and many small and friendly get-togethers. If this is of interest to you, Apollo is certainly interested in you.
This year, Apollo is planning another big summer extravaganza, called "Apollo's Follies," and you will want to make this event. They are noted for their fantastic summer extravaganzas, and this one looks to be their best yet. It will be the biggest and the best event of the summer with hors d'ouevres and cash bar, a live variety show, and a buffet dinner prepared by local chefs. It's set for the Baton Rouge Little Theater, and the date is June 13, 1998. Admission will be $20 in advance and $25 at the door. Tickets are available through Hibiscus Bookstore and Four Seasons Flowers and Gifts. A portion of the proceeds goes to the Apollo AIDS/Crisis Fund. For more information, call 504.926.4904.
The Mirror Lounge was the scene of the Miss Southeast Louisiana Pageant. Shakeir DeBlack was the winner with Bobbie James coming in as first runner-up. The two other candidates were Tiara Dominique and VLK. Talent for the evening included Tasha Sinclair, a former queen of the Royal Order of Unicorn in Lafayette, Corrione Synclaire (in a fabulous burgandy gown), D.D. DeMarco (doing Streisand), Sylvia Scarlett (Miss Gay Louisiana), Tasha Ray, Siera Vega (and I hope I spelled that right, darling), and outgoing Miss Southeast Louisiana, Asia Alexander. Asia's final number was "I Dream in Colors."
George's had Atilla and Justin back for another night of swinging and swaying. These two guys are certainly gorgeous in all respects. I think they are both fine examples of perfect physiques, with and without the coverings. Guy always enjoys "his" boys when they dance on the bar. Normally, this quiet little gentleman just goes about his work, but give him a good-looking hunk and you have a vibrant personality on your hands. Of course, I've always liked both Richard and Guy. We go back a long ways, and the times have been good in all respects.
The Hide-A-Way had a big turnout last week for their pool tournament. I also got to visit with Minette and her beautiful Sharie. Edie and Anna were also there enjoying a big game with Christy and Shay. I got to visit with Helga and Courtney, who are such a wonderful couple, and I always enjoy my chats with Marie and her Hubba Bubba, Suzanne and all the other regulars.
The Blue Parrot was the scene of a big birthday fiesta. Fluffy and Jacques were the honored ones, and they really had a great time. The party last Saturday started at 3 p.m. and lasted until - well, I won't go there. Last Wednesday was also a festive time at this bar. That excellent food, the big TV screen, and the charming duo of Don and Tom always make for an ideal time at this bar. TTT, BB, Jerald, and Damon had a wonderful time. It was Jerald's first time here, and he was happy he came. He is one magnificent specimen of manhood - gorgeous features along with that muscular body and fine personality. The printing specialist came with his handsome entourage, the big Fluff entertained everyone, and Bill and Dean, the master cabinetmakers also joined the group. New merchandise is being added to the Blue Parrot's Leather Connection, Hibiscus South. Check it out, and ask for any speciality item which you may want. Special orders of chaps, vests and other leather goods can be made at any time. And don't forget that Friday nights are the big leather nights here. Come on out and enjoy yourself.
The Time Zone was the scene of a big crowd in for fine music from Tommy and Sounds Unlimited. This was a follow-up event to that big crawfish boil. I ran into Sam and Clint while there. I hadn't seen Big Sam in quite some time, and Clint's just a little hunk of joy. I must have left my note pad unguarded for a while because when I got home I noticed that Kyle and James were doing something on the pool table. It wasn't my handwriting, and I can't explain in detail because Ambush is a family newspaper, but it did look like Kyle's writing, and it did bring a smile to my face. I can just see it now - Oh! No, no, I'd rather not think about it.
Now let me tell you the scoop on a few of the natives here. I would be remiss in my duties if I didn't tell you about the fabulous Lady Rhonda. I didn't realize what had happened until BB clued me in. It all started when BB was helping me deliver Ambush, and this big, black automobile came by. I didn't notice the occupant, but BB was as excited as I've ever seen him (except when he was telling about locking Luther in his apartment and the poor child had to break the door down to get out). Well, our BB just left me in the Mirror with the gorgeous Lady R and proceeded to go back outside to see if the black automobile would come back by. It did, but it kept going.
I still had to go to the Hide-A-Way, eat my evening meal, and do other chores, so I said goodnight to BB and went on my way. Well, let me tell you something. BB was still hot to trot so he went back to the Mirror to see if Mr. Black Automobile Stud was there. He was, but guess what! The Lady had everything under control including Mr. Black Automobile Stud. As I understand it, before the night was over, the good and kindly Lady was on the receiving end of pleasure central. Just leave it to the Lady. She slept divinely that night.
Now back to BB. That little episode of locking someone in the house might sound a little kinky, and it well could have been, but I won't go there either. You see, it takes one key to get in and another key to get out of BB's apartment. BB forgot this, went off to work, and left poor Luther inside. After a couple hours of frustration, he decided to break his way out. I know a good man is hard to find, but this sweet man must have been the ultimate in good companionship. BB just wanted to keep him forever and ever and ever. Luther darling, you could have called me to help you. I would have been so pleased to assist from the opposite side of the door. My, oh my! Ain't love grand!
I ran into two beautiful Cs when I stopped off at Hibiscus Bookstore. Chase is absolutely a perfect specimen of young studhood, and his friend Craig just reeked in vivacious sexual appeal. Together they made one fantastic couple. Another stud also stopped in while I was there. Keith, my flower child, came by to pick up that latest metal acquisition. He looks so stunning in it. And, last but not least, TTT dropped in to get his afternoon delight - a daily dose of great friendship from his bookstore baron.
Well, gorgeous Gregory Cain is entering the Mr. Knight contest, presented by the Knight d'Orleans in New Orleans. This leather event will take place at the Mint on Esplanade, and I'll tell you all about it in the next issue of Ambush. Admission is $10 in advance and $15 at the door. This is always a big night for this New Orleans group, so I hope to see you all there.
The Royal Order of Unicorn also selected their royalty for next year. Chris George and Fred Acosta are the king and queen-elect for this krewe. It must have REALLY excited Fred. He had a heart attack, underwent surgery, came through in great form, and is looking forward to a great ball. Fred, darling, an encore is not necessary! Behave yourself! You're going to make a fabulous queen, but then I thought you already were one. Congratulations to you and to Chris.
Billy Boy came by for a visit. He's that Dish Row stud who moved down in the boonies - way down there. He's lonesome and available. Did I say that right, sweetie? I certainly hope it helps.
Edwin, the T-P connection, also came up from the Crescent City. His excuse was to get away from the noise of Jazz Fest. He's got a fabulous house, but the sounds of that many people just oozed right into his home. I hear he's invited the local book baron to accompany him on a trip to Nepal. Damon's considering it, but right now, he's making plans for that big Hemingway vacation in Key West in July.
For those of you who need to know, I'd like to introduce all of you to Rosalind Flowers, Gay Outreach Coordinator for Friends For Life, AIDS Resource Center, 5700 Florida Blvd., Dean tower, 8th floor. She will conduct HIV testing with the new Orasure Technology, accuracy without needles, at the Mirror on Friday, May 15 and at Evolutions on Friday, May 22. You can also go in for testing on Wednesdays between 5 - 7 p.m. at the Dean Tower location. Or if you need to schedule an appointment, call her at 504.923.2277 (or 1.800.923.2279). She's here to help everyone. Don't hesitate to call or see her.
I'm already missing my sexy lawyer from down the street. Chad is now in the Crescent City, but he will always be remembered for all the good things he did here in Red Stick. Richard Bullock is another sexy lawyer and a nice replacement person to take care of all your legal needs, so stop in at Hibiscus and pick up one of his cards.
Movie baron Leonard is back from vacation, and he's rested. I don't think he got too far away from home, but just getting away from the banana queen did wonders for him.
Mike strayed away from those card sharks again and ended up dining with three other studs at Arzi's on Government Street. That sexy little waiter is back to service your needs, so go by and enjoy their fine food. Mike is still thrilled about that New York trip he made with his Marky, and he shared those experiences with his friends. He shared some shocking pointers too, but I'd best not go there. He didn't get locked in an apartment, but that statement about being a queen from day one brought out a great reaction from everyone. Mike darling, I've never seen anyone turn so red before.
In case you haven't heard, Brian is leaving the great state of Louisiana and LEGAL for Bulgaria. Yes, that's correct. He's going to serve his country in the Piece -oops - Peace Corp. All I can say to Brian is to get over there, get settled, do another great job, and go looking for Lukas Ridgeston. You will be missed, my friend. Don't forget to keep in touch.
And finally, I'd like to say goodbye to Danny. This lovely and talented man left us abruptly, but his accomplishments will be remembered forever.
