HBB Raises Over $1,200;
Candie Samples Crowned
Has-Been Of The Year #IThe 1st Has Been Ball, www.gayworld.net/hasbeen, initiated by Ambush Mag 2000 raised over $1,200, benefitting Team New Orleans. Hosted at GAA Dance Bar of the Year, Oz, 800 Bourbon St., the event donation will help send Team New Orleans to Gay Games V/Amsterdam '98 in August.
Soon-to-be has been Miss Love, Southern Decadence Grand Marshal [SDGM] XXV hosted the Has Been of the Year Contest. Judged by audience response, Candie Samples, portraying a young, slim, green haired, yellow/zipper clad has been SDGM Ms. Fly; was crowned winner by Miss Love. Two other contestants, Estelle, portraying herself with a purple doo and star glasses, and Jamie Love, portraying Miss Love clad only in gym shorts and bridal veil, were also audience favorites.
Has Been of the Year [HBY] I, Candie Samples, will enjoy over $1,000 in cash and prizes. Special thanks to all donors for making this evening an unforgettable one.

Total $30,710Organizations in Austin, Texas, were awarded AMgrants [Ambush Advertising Grant Donations] totaling $30,710. AMgrants are distributed to various charities, organizations and events throughout communities that have supported Ambush Mag 2000 and AMBUSHonLINE.
AIDS Services of Austin, Metropolitan Community Church/Austin, Out Youth Austin, Team Austin and Texas Gay Rodeo Association all received Ambush Mag 2000 ads totaling $2,630, and AMBUSHonLINE A List and site links totaling $27,000.
Project Transitions and United Court of Austin were granted Ambush Mag 2000 ads totaling $1,080. Should comprehensive web sites be developed for both orgs, AMBUSHonLINE grants will be forthcoming.
AMBUSHonLINE's Gay Texas Orgs site @ www.gaytexas.org features many organizations throughout the Lone Star State.
Country Western Full Moon DJ
Makes Rubyfruit A HitRubyfruit Jungle, 640 Frenchmen, packed in the c/w fans for their special May Country Western Full Moon Blow-out. Boot Scootin' Boogie hit DJ Mike Thomas kept dancers on the floor, complete with line dancing extravaganzas to couple snuggling songs.
Transformed into a hay-filled big country barn, Rubyfruit treated patrons to a 32 oz. cowboy/girl cup'o Bud or Bud Lite draft (included in the cover charge) to kick off the evening.
If you want to catch Rubyfruit's regular country/western fever, visit the club every Tuesday for Boot Scootin' Boogie featuring DJ Mike Thomas. If you don't know the steps, lessons start off the festivities.
King Neptune Reigns
Over Bourbon Pub/ParadeA giant, ceiling high, green King Neptune greeted revelers at the Bourbon Pub/Parade's annual Neptune's Palace bash. Both the Pub and Parade were transformed into the lost city of Atlantis. From horned sea horses to flying fish and green seaweed, Jonathan and staff did another fabu job.
Parade bartenders Yvette and Blake tantalized the crowd with their swim suit faux sex presentations, and kept us swimming in white zin.
Ava Synclaire Crowned
Miss FootlooseOut of a field of six contestants, Ava Synclaire was crowned Miss Footloose by last year's winner, Aysa Alexander. The categories of competition included presentation, evening gown and talent. However, "presentation" took on a whole new meaning as some of the contestants chose revealing swim suits for this category.
First and second runner-ups were Zhane' Kennedy and S'naya Narsis. Other contestants included FhiFi A'Volante, Naya Simone and Ursuline Burgundy.
Asya Alexander Wins
Miss Gay New OrleansThe Miss Gay New Orleans America pageant crowned Asya Alexander as queen and Nikki Riche as 1st runner-up. Last year's queen Tiara Dominique did the honors. Hosted annually by GAA Show Bar of the Year Oz, both Asya and Nikki will go on to the Miss Gay Louisiana America Pageant representing the Crescent City. Miss Gay Louisiana America is a prelim to Miss Gay America.
Reigning Miss Gay Louisiana America Sylvia Scarlett dazzled the huge crowd, as did Miss Gay New Orleans '97 Tiara Dominique, Teryl-Lynn Foxx, Lisa Beaumann, Stephanie Williams and Raquel Chevallier.
Judged in evening gown, creative fashion and talent; other contestants included Monica Storm, Zhane' Kennedy, Marsha Michaels, FhiFi A'Volante, Kiasion Bonet and Victoria Cole.
Do's Birthday Bash
Is A Command PerformanceMiss Do's Annual Birthday Extravaganza and Buffet was a command performance, as always. Friends and associates from throughout the city never fail to miss the event. It is the one time of year where Miss do counts heads and you had better be in that number.
Adorned in another Ray Cole original, Miss Do greeted her fans. Ms. Fly had Smurf give her an Alain/Blanche white beached short cut coif for the occasion.
Catered by Petunias' chef Jay Loomis and Andrew Jaeger's chef Donnie Jay, the buffet included jambalaya, smothered green beans, pasta dish and two salads.
Some of the party guests included TT's Clifford and Madame Lambare', Footloose's Craig and Patrick, Marcy Marcell and Stephanie Williams; Mother Bob's Mother, Harold and Danae Daniels; Bobby Ramone and John John; Petunias' Pete, Hoyle, Jay, Michael & Drew; Ineeda Roc; Regina Ann; Arthur Flood; Paloma; Golden Lantern's Miss Verona, and Freedom's Celia and Thad.
Wolfendale's Pluto Pride Party Raises $1,080
Wolfendale's manager Eddie Fos and assistant manager Rhyn Pate pulled out all the stops hosting the most successful Pride benefit to date. The PLUTO [People Like Us Together as One] Pride Party raised $1,080 for this year's Pride Fest in Armstrong Park Sept. 26 and 27.
Party patrons were treated to a fabu buffet and hot Wolfendale's show, plus prizes and drink specials.
Andy's Memorial Tribute
Benefits Food For FriendsThe "Celebration of Life" memorial tribute to the memory of bar baron Andy Boudreaux benefited Food For Friends. In lieu of flowers, friends and associates donated $295 to Food For Friends that evening, with more donations expected to arrive via mail.
Friends talked about favorite memories and stories about Andy while sipping cocktails and enjoying the buffet created by chef Joseph A. Gaines, including Andy's favorite-garlic stuffed pork roast.
Andy's philanthropic acts in the New Orleans community will be greatly missed.
