Write Your Local HRC Governor

We have received calls from across the USA asking if the Boycott/Girlcott of HRC is over. Quite simply, NO! The leaders of HRC that have spoken, Ms. Birch and Ms. Red Wing, elude responsibility of the Mission Statement change to the Board of Governors. Birch and Red Wing also have stated that the Governors are not cognizant of the issues and facts that come with the Transgender movement.

Now we can satisfy that need-can't we, girls? All we have to do is write to our individual state members of the Board of Governors. Efforts to educate the Governors have either fallen on deaf ears or hard hearts. It is a fact that the National HRC organizers have invited Transgender representatives to D.C. for the purpose of education and awareness.

Still there is no positive reaction to the Transgender's needs. And has anyone heard anything at all on the Bisexual issues. Has the Board of Governors been introduced to Bisexual representatives? These persons seem to be persecution by both the gays and straights. Many who are Bisexual will not admit or accept the fact and are the worse offenders of abuse towards those that are open.

If you give all this much thought, it becomes very painful to realize that such a large number of our GLBT community is so forgotten or pushed behind the scenes. We really do need to let the Governors know that it is their responsibility to change this situation.

The Co-Chairs of the HRC Board of Governors are Stephenie Hart (SjHartesq@aol.com) and Mark French (Mfrench625@aol.com). Write them. The HRC events team can be reached at rachel donner@hrc.org. Also write philattey@hrc.org. In Louisiana write, Robert Ripley, 723 Esplanade Ave., NOLA 70116 and Deyette Danford, 2208 Dublin St., NOLA 70118. Robert and Deyette are your HRC Governors and although they wrote cutting letters about the Boycott, they are both caring people who just need your input. And it is their job.

Those that called from across the USA asked us when the HRC Dinners were planned for their area. Here is a schedule just in case you need to organize a protest or boycott where you live. June 13, 1998-Greenville, SC; June 19, 1998-Columbus, OH; July 25, 1998-Chicago, IL; September 19, 1998-Washington, D C; September 26, 1998-Twin Cities-MN; October 10, 1998-Detroit, MI and San Francisco, CA; October 24, 1998-St. Louis, MO and New England.

If you want the rights that you have asked us to help you obtain, WRITE. If you don't know who the Governors are for your state, call, E-mail or write HRC and ask. This isn't something we can do for you. It is time the Bisexual and Transgender members of the GLBT community took a more active lead in their fight for equality.

Recently, I wrote a letter to the GGA's editor of the Flip Side. I said that I understood the fear of being active; that, when I was a frightened "little" Lesbian, there were straight people who fought side by side with more mature Gay men and Lesbians for my rights. My first letter of protest so many years ago was arkward and reflected my fear. Do not allow your fears to steal your rights. Bisexual and Transgender "friendly people" can not do with a dozen letters what can be done by one letter from a Bisexual or Transgender.

Mickey Needs YOU!

Saturday, June 6th, "Stand Our Ground" against the mean spirited Radical Religious Right and support DISNEY. The local stores can be found at Lakeside Shopping Center, Oakwood Shopping Center, #1 Poydras St. and 1401 W. Esplanade Ave., Kenner, LA.

Breaux Needs YOU!

It is not too early to show your support for the re-election of Senator John Breaux in 1998. We do not want another ugly fight like the one between Mary and Woody. Contact your local political organization to learn what you can do.
