735 nightclub/bar continues to bring some of the best club experiences to its 735 Bourbon St. location. Sat., June 23 is no exception as Ambush joins 735 presenting Depeche Mode night with chances to win free Exciter Tour concert tickets, T-shirts and posters. Popular DJs Raymond Mattix and Alyson Calagna will keep the tempo up for this exciting evening.

Internationally famous DJ Peter Heller is set to headline at 735 on Thurs., June 28. Doors open at 9pm. Heller is the noted creator of "Big Love," "Sytlus Trouble Sputnik" and remixer of "Voices 2001." "Big Love," Heller's first solo project, became a worldwide club hit as well as reaching No. 12 in the UK national charts.

This will be Heller's first New Orleans engagement. His popularity continues to be in demand at home and abroad, playing regularly at the UK's leading clubs and guesting throughout Europe and around the world.

Neon Party IX June 30
Celebrates Oz's Anniversary

One of the hottest parties in town, Neon Party IX, is set for Sat., June 30 celebrating the anniversary of Dance Bar and Show Bar of the Year, Oz, 800 Bourbon St. One of the top 10 DJs in America, and a resident DJ at Oz, Joe Gauthreaux, will do the honors this night.

In keeping with its tradition of bringing big acts to the stage, Oz will feature a live performance by Rozalla during the party. And what weekend night would be complete without the tantalizing Men of Manwatch dancers, those big ole beefy boys Austin diva Marcy Fletcher handpicks herself?

Project Lazarus' 7th Annual LAZFEST July 4th

The 7th Annual LAZFEST, a fund-raiser for Project Lazarus, the oldest and largest Catholic assisted housing program for people with AIDS, will again be held in Cabrini Park in the French Quarter (corner of Dauphine and Barracks) on the 4th of July, from 11am to 6pm.

The day offers food, games, music, a silent auction and a dunk tank. A $15 donation (children under 12 free) entitles one to unlimited food, soft drinks and beer. Take a chance on the raffle, or get a bargain in the always extravagant silent auction.

LAZFEST is an opportunity to have a great Independence Day and to help one of the oldest AIDS organizations which serves New Orleans and the surrounding parishes.

7th Annual Essence Music Festival July 5 - 7destinyschild

Starting at 7pm, Thurs., Fri. & Sat., July 5 - 7, the seventh annual Essence Music Festival will be held at New Orleans' Superdome, 1500 Poydras St.

Sponsored by Essence, the preeminent lifestyle magazine for today's African-American woman, the festival has changed the way thousands of music fans view the July 4 weekend. Visitors from all over - funk fans, playa non-haters and the Oprah self-help set - flock to the Superdome to celebrate their independence through various empowerment seminars and to liberate their backsides to a nonstop soundtrack of classic soul, funk, hip-hop and contemporary R&B.

Although the full schedule hasn't yet been finalized, the lineup so far offers plenty of opportunities for music fans to wave their funk flags proudly. A partial list of names includes recent Grammy-winning trio Destiny's Child, Erykah Badu, Yolanda Adams, AJ Jamal, Patti La Belle, Jill Scott, the Roots, Eric Benet and perennial closer Maze featuring Frankie Beverly. In the Super Lounges, some seminars will be held by Carl Thomas, Angie Stone, Tower of Power, King Solomon Burke, Clarence Carter, Bilal, Patti Austin and Jeffrey Osbourne, to name a few.

10th High Heel Pool Tourney
Kicks Off July 11

The 10th annual High Heel Pool Tournament will begin on Wed., July 11 at the Friendly Bar, 2301 Chartres, playing for Buzzy's Boys & Girls. Last year's team participation generated $4,300 for various charities yeilding a grand total of $45,000 for the past nine years of tourney play. Each team plays for a charity they choose. To raise money, team members pay to play and each host bar sells raffle tickets for prizes each Wed. night of competition.

Other Wed. games at 7pm scheduled include July 25-Another Corner playing for Belle Reve, Aug. 1-Voodoo playing for Food For Friends, Aug. 8-Ninth Circle playing for Brotherhood, Inc., Aug. 15-Corner Pocket playing for University Hospital Hospice, Aug. 22-Double Play playing for Lesbian & Gay Community Center, Aug. 29-Angles playing for Project Lazarus, Sept. 12-4 Seasons playing for Whole Health Outreach, Sept. 19-Finals/Friendly Bar and Sept. 26-Payoff/Voodoo.

The High Heel Drag Show is set for Sat., Aug. 11, at Ninth Circle. Watch teams vie for Miss High Heel, while raising more money for the tournament pot.

Additionally, Miller Lite and Fosters are sponsoring the full page color ads appearing in Ambush promoting Southern Decadence XXX, the giant end of summer GLBT holiday celebration Labor Day Weekend in New Orleans.

22nd New Orleans Pride Fest
Set for Sept. 22-30

New Orleans Alliance of Pride will present the 22nd Annual New Orleans Pride Fest Sept. 22-30. The celebration reaches out and strives to be inclusive of the entire Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender community.The Pride Parade will kick off festivities on Sat., Sept. 22, 2pm, with line up at Washington Square Park. Winding through the streets of the French Quarter, the parade will end at Armstrong Park. Later that evening, the Grand Marshals' reception will be held.

The festival itself will occur on Sat. and Sun., Sept. 29 and 30, 10am-6pm. Beautiful Armstrong Park, adjacent to the French Quarter, will again be the venue for Pride Fest featuring entertainment, food and vendor booths.

Prior to Pride Fest in Sept., New Orleans Alliance of Pride will present the 30th anniversary of the 1st Gay Pride Picnic on Sat., June 23, 12noon-5pm. Hosted at Pops Fountain in City Park, celebrants are asked to bring their own lunch; however, Pride will provide free beer. The Volunteers Party has been set for Sun., July 22, 5-9pm, at the Country Club. Other activities and fund-raisers will be held before Pride Fest week. Watch for details here.

The Pride Board includes co-chairs Crystal Little and Jim Bailor, treasurer Thomas Franklin, secretary Vicki Marchese, entertainment chair Melissa Aderhold, Keith Oalmann [security, sanitation and marketplace vendors], Allan Spach [marketplace vendors] and Harold Short [entertainment]. Little will also handle park setup and logistics, sponsors' and vendors' assistance, while Bailor will work with volunteers and sponsors.Aderhold, Franklin and Spach are in charge of the Parade, with volunteers under Franklin, and fund-raising under Marchese. Additionally Roberts Batson will assist with Gay history for the event.

The New Orleans Alliance of Pride Board has chosen Ambush and AMBUSHonLine as its exclusive major local media sponsor for New Orleans, as well as all of Louisiana and the Gulf South, Texas through Florida. The Ambush balcony at 828 Bourbon St. returns this year as the official Grand Marshal's reviewing stand during the Pride Parade Sept. 22.
