Photo Opsappho

The flirtatious Chloe Atkins shows her photographic brilliance in a hip pocket size book, Atkins: Girls' Night Out, featuring Lesbians at play. The book may be small, the talent is huge. Interested? Take a look at Chloe's web site at chloeatkins.com. The site is a tasty treat for the eye and imagination.

These are not studio posed pics. The photographs were taken where joyful Lesbians gather to enjoy their nights and exercise their rights as women who enjoy and appreciate other women.

Rosa & Eva by Cloe Atkins

I've added a sample just to wet your appetite or whatever. I am also suggesting to Chloe that when she completes her next project on "drag kings" that the time will be right for a look at older Lesbians and land Lesbians. Enjoy!

MAC

With the second year of Mayor Morial's Advisory Committee coming to an end, the little heard of Mayor's Advisory Committee on Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Issues has completed some large tasks under Robert Udick, Ph.D. and myself thanks to a hard working and talented group of members. In July, I will publish reports of these tasks.

For now, we hope to interest highly motivated, responsible community members to apply for a seat on this committee. We are limited to 15 members. We expect interested persons to come to the MAC with ideas on how they can work to help the GLBT community socially and politically. Send your resume to T. Pizanie, Chair/MAC, 2013 Royal St., NOLA 70116. I will set up an interview for you with James Donovan, Ph.D. at your earliest convenience. James will serve as MAC chair starting August, 1998.

The MAC proudly announces that Ms. Nancy Sharp has been elected as the Vice-chair for the 1998-99 term. The Committee is an inclusive group that wishes to celebrate the diversity of our community.

Cheers!

Attention all pool playing Lesbians: Pat Bergeron, owner of Cheers and Pat's, sponsors a women's pool team, Eager Beavers, that plays in the Bush League. In 1997, Pat's team qualified for the Regional play-offs at Casino Magic. This year they are planning to make it all the way to Las Vegas. Ask any of the Cheers bartenders about joining the league the next time you stop in for a game of pool or darts. Even if you don't play pool or darts, stop in Cheers for good drinks served by the friendliest women in town and good music that is dancible and just loud enough so you can still talk to the cutie next to you.

Pat and Jeannie will be celebrating their Grand Opening next month on the 11th with door prizes and specials. Sherreece will be performing at 11pm. Mark your calendars.

The drive to Cheers is a quick one, only 15 minutes from my place in the Marigny. Take the Crescent City Connection to Stumpf Blvd. Bear left onto Hancock and when you get to the STOP sign, Cheers is on the left. There is a lot of parking infront and across the street with a security person to make sure you get to and from Cheers safely. See you there where old and new friends meet and even Frankie Ford drops in.

Pride On The Coast

Charlene's and Linda's on the Coast will celebrate Pride Weekend on June 27 & 28. With New Orleans Pride being held the last weekend in September, Charlene took this opportunity to plan a celebration during the traditional Pride Month-June. This will be Charlene's 1st Annual Pride on the Coast.

Charlene was part of the early successful New Orleans Pride Weekends way back when...and is looking forward to being a pioneer in Bay St. Louis. Charlene has three acres of land waiting to be filled with booths of food, beverages, crafts, and GLBT people wanting to show their PRIDE.

The party starts at noon and will go on and on and on until we all fall down, too tired to continue. The admission fee is $2.00. See you there!

Apollo's Evening Of Excellence

The Baton Rouge Little Theatre was the scene for the Krewe of Apollo's fund raiser, "Apollo's Follies of 1998." With friends Sean, Jack, Scott, Pat and Judyth , I enjoyed an evening of outstanding and varied entertainment which started with the talents of captains Joe Boniol and Lester Mut.

It is impossible to pick a favorite act as there were no bad acts. Perhaps the most impressive artist was Don Hill. When his microphone decided to squeal at the very beginning of his selection, "Maria" from West Side Story, Don reached inside his tux jacket, turned off the mic and wowed the audience to the last row.

Other acts that left us rolling in the aisles and screaming for more were Tony Dees & Co.'s Latin Extravaganza and selections from Pump Boys & Dinettes sung by Chuck Chesteen, Scott Frederic and captains, Joe and Lester.

The New Orleans Gay Men's Chorus sang a preview of the concert (which will be held at UNO the last weekend of this month) to a standing ovation. The Chorus just gets better every time I hear them and that has been at least once a year since 1988. It is not too late to buy your tickets for this concert.

After the wonderfully enjoyable show, area restaurants treated the appreciative audience to a luscious buffet dinner. These Gay and Gay friendly businesses put on quite a feast.

Ticket sales go to the AIDS/CRISIS FUND COMMITTEE. Thanks Baton Rouge for a fun weekend.
