The A List

LAFAYETTE, LOUISIANA

First things first, I would like to apologize for my absence in my coverage of events lately. My grandmother, who also functioned as my mother by raising me, recently passed away after a battle with cancer. A special thank you to all who were so supportive during that time. No girls, this is not going to become a long, depressing obituary, just a sincere expression of my gratitude. So thank you first of all to Toby. I would not have made it without you. Also thanks to Charles, Randal, Lee, Robyn, John, Jay and so many more of you who were a strong sense of support and encouragement. As my grandmother always said, "You only live once, have fun"...with that in mind, here we go!

Congratulations to Lafayette's Shayla Gray. She was recently crowned Miss Gulf Shores at Crystal's in Lake Charles. This club is unbelievable. It amazes me how John Gillan, owner of Crystal's in Lake Charles and The Sound Factory in Lafayette, seems to know exactly what his patrons want and doesn't stop until he delivers. (I meant that in a good way, John). Also a grand salute goes out to Miss Stephanie Stevens, another of Lafayette's talented performers. She is First Runner-up and will be a competitor in the Miss Gay Louisiana pageant to be held later this year in Alexandria. With the strong representation from our area, it appears as though the next Miss Gay Louisiana will be from Acadiana.

During one of my latest visits to The Sound Factory, I had the opportunity to watch the goddess, Racine Ross, perform. I think this girl has found the Fountain of Youth and keeps it to herself. She looks just as wonderful as always and still performs with the same intensity as she did when I first met her many, many years ago. So to Racine...you are too hot! It was equally as uplifting to see both Alexis Michelle and Casey Starr perform. The nostalgia of years gone by was quite overwhelming. John Gillan, thank you for keeping us very well entertained.

Two special people come to mind when you think about partying, Chili Pepper and Troy. I always look forward to seeing these two. I applaud those who give all to having a great time, and you two definitely deserve recognition in that department. Thank you for just being yourselves, my favorite "ho-dogs." Stay full and enjoy life.

Perhaps the most recent case of good luck/bad luck for me occurred at Jules. Friends convinced me to go out and have some fun. To my great surprise when we walked in, we found Jules was having Male Dancers (that's the good luck). Two hot, enticing men there were waiting to be photographed. Well, the camera broke (the bad luck). So being the dedicated Ambush representative I am, I utilized my own senses to be able to report the details to you (good luck, again). Let's see...sexy voices, smooth & well tanned skin, rippling muscles, tall, salty (I mean sensuous) men. Ron and Randy, how do we ever thank you enough? These guys keep providing us with impromptu entertainment which makes good luck/bad luck not so bad.

My girls at MoJo's always make sure it's a great time. Any time I am there I find it difficult to not spend the evening on the dance floor. Stevie and Dawn make sure that everyone is having a good time and plenty of liquids. They are planning several functions in the near future. Make sure to check future editions of Ambush to find out the dates.

Also, congratulations to a dear friend of mine, Jerry. She is in the process of opening her third bar. While developing her plans to become a tycoon in the bar business, she has included plans in the near future for an all-out "country" gay bar. With her great talent and ambition, this is sure to be an added hot spot to the already great list.

Special mentions: Raymond, I do not think you are that full of yourself. Nelson, I promise we will celebrate your birthday. Ted, I heard through the grapevine that the Male Dancers are returning soon. Sherman, I hope your visit to the area was memorable. Ryan (Miss Lisa), I hear our man will be back in town soon. Let's flip for him. Heads or tails? Chris Tergo, I miss hearing you sing. Robyn, next time we go to Jerry's bar in the middle of the day, we need to limit our drinks in order to make it out that night.

To those of you who have not been taking advantage of what Lafayette has to offer, you are missing out! Remember to contact Ambush if you are in need of a representative, information about advertising in Ambush or online or want to share information of upcoming events that you would like to see covered. Until next time, "You only live once, have fun!"
