Blue Parrot Celebrates Anniversary

It was a celebration of high order as Don and Tom brought out the goodies to eat and the drinks to delight the masses. The drawings for wonderful gifts were given on the hour all day with a big balloon drop that night. There wasn't a dull moment as the crowds came and left, some returning later in the evening for a little more celebrating.

It was a festive time as decorations filled the bar and the patio, and the hosts promised a lot more of the same at future celebrations. It was another milestone in this relationship. Don and Tom are two of Baton Rouge's most prominent citizens, and they constantly contribute to the well being of their fellow brothers and sisters.

When you are in Baton Rouge, the trip is not complete without a stopover at the Blue Parrot, located on Oklahoma St. off Nicholson.

Time Zone Throws Another One

It was crawfish time again on Main St. as Kyle and James held their latest cookout. It's always a festive time when everyone gets together for food and drink at this establishment.

Lots of changes are coming up at the Time Zone. A new air conditioner has been added to the attic, and the wall separating the two sections is about to come down. When it is completed, it will take on a totally different look, with an expanded bar and added decorations. It sounds like a great improvement.

The growth of this bar shows in the many changes that have taken place since these guys have moved into this location. Their business is an asset to this part of Red Stick.

Evolution Plans Big Pageant

July 24 is the date set for the Miss Capitol City Pageant at Evolution. Trixxie has all the scoop on what's going on with this one. Give her a call at 504.344.9291. Kofi will emcee the event, so this will be a hoot and a half. Free hors d'oeuvres are also on tap for the evening.

If you want to have a great time and save dollars too, get to Evolution prior to 11pm on Fri. nights and it's free. There's always great happenings here on Saturdays including wet boxer contests and other Trixxie surprises. Karen and Jason are the DJs, so come on out and dance away the night at the Deep South's finest dance emporium.

I ran into some of my favorite people while I was there last week. I could never get enough of that charming and delightful Keith. He's just a special young man with a great personality and gobs of good looks (all over). Another cutie and a wonderful youngster is Buddy. I liked him the minute I saw him behind the bar, and that was a long time ago. He's one of those individuals with a magnetism that makes you yearn for more. He's clever and articulate, and he makes you feel so welcome when you come to Evolution.

Hair is always a bundle of wisdom, and she introduced me to a handsome Italian stud named Luca. This bundle of muscular manhood is a sight to behold. Other charmers include bartenders Brian and Michael.

Hibiscus Goes Seven Days

Because of customer response, Hibiscus Bookstore is now open seven days a week. Kyle is Damon's new assistant, which means the book baron has more time to kick up his heels. You'll find Kyle there on Sat., Sun. and Mon. It's no telling where you will find the bookman, except in the later part of July when he competes in the Hemingway Look-a-Like and literary contests in Key West. Another trip to San Francisco is also planned with a certain Tibetan restaurant and store on the schedule, and possibly a chat with the Gere man.

New merchandise has been added to the bookstore, with several new magazine titles among this additional material. Hibiscus has one of the largest "family" oriented magazine shelves in the entire south land. If it's a quality alternative publication, you'll more than likely find it here. If not, let management know, and it will be added to the stock if at all possible.

Leather orders are done once each month, so if you have a need for something that is not on display here or at the Blue Parrot, get your request in before the order date arrives. The same is true for any Lesbian-oriented item, which you may want to check out at the Hide-A-Way.

Hibiscus is located at 635 Main St., and it offers a relaxed atmosphere for all Gays and Lesbians.

Victoria Valentine Named Miss Hide-A-Way

Victoria Valentine, the talented and beautiful Lafayette performer, has just been named Miss Hide-A-Way and will represent this establishment at the Miss Gay Louisiana Pageant to be held in Alexandria later this year. The Hide-A-Way produced a big winner in Carrione Synclaire a couple of years ago, and Valentine should be right up there in the winner's circle too. Outstanding talent runs in the "Valentine family."

Relaxing is a way of life at the Hide-A-Way, and lots of guys are beginning to discover this. The pool area at the back of the bar is always an active place with tournament play taking place on Thurs. nights. Whether you like a quiet corner for a drink or a dance floor where excellent music is offered, you don't have to look any further than Minette's palace. Marie and her Hubba Bubba have been offering some good events lately, and more is scheduled for future weekends.

George's Turns Up The Heat

Strippers have been turning up the heat at George's lately, and, of course, their Thurs. night karaoke sessions are always packed from wall to wall. Sir Richard and his Guy, along with a certain policeman, made their way to Washington, D.C. and New York City for a few days. Ragtime was on their schedule, but I haven't found out what other goodies they got into.

When I checked out the bar the other day, there was a great strip pool game going on. Finis, Mark, and Mitchell were having a blast, and clothes were flying in all directions. These beauties all look great, with or without clothes.

I talked with the master photographer (and bartender) Mark for a while. His business is growing by leaps and bounds. For all your photography needs, just give him a buzz, or let me know and I'll pass along your name to him. He's serving both New Orleans and Baton Rouge in excellent fashion and is also available to take customers in Lafayette. His photography is outstanding in all respects, his prices are very good, and his service record is impeccable. Not only is he creative, but he's just about the most beautiful hunk to ever pass along a smile your way.

Miscellanea

I got a call from Shayla Gray of Lafayette, the new Miss Lakeshores, last week. She had kind words for my article on Lake Charles and what I had to say about her. It's nice to know people care about you in such a positive way. A little thank you goes a long way, but you don't find them any nicer than the dynamic and talented Shayla.

TTT was in New Orleans for a church-related seminar and is doing some articles on what he learned. This is one of Red Stick's most talented writers and definitely one of the hardest workers I know. He's an outstanding asset to the community.

Rules for the Miss Butch and Miss Femme contest can be picked up from Hibiscus or the Hide-A-Way. This is going to be a fun contest scheduled for this fall. Check it out. The message is going out statewide, so there should be lots of participants.

Sympathy goes out to Tony, the dance sensation, who lost his mother last week.
