LAFAYETTE, LOUISIANABeating the summer heat has fast become a concern of the Acadiana area. Our high temperatures and breathtaking humidity are quickly taking their toll on the locals. Thank God our nightclubs have found several ways to alleviate this unpleasant situation. Every night of the week brings refreshing drink specials, charming bartenders and a "cool" atmosphere.
Not only does The Sound Factory provide us with a wonderful list of week long drink specials, but they have also found ways to keep our tummies full. The filling Tues. Night Potluck Buffet and Sun. Lunch Buffet have fast become favorites to many in our area, yours truly included. What more could you ask for-a game of Cadillac, cold refreshing drinks, fabulous food and most importantly an ass-kicking air conditioner. Life is good! You will definitely want to attend The Sound Factory's Super Saturday Shows. This event features some of the best performers and displays of talent in our area. Check the bar for weekly advertisements announcing the week's featured attractions. An added bonus to Sat. nights is the great music mix by DJ Jason with the lights by Jamie. Remember on Sun. to get there early and enjoy the free noon buffet, drink specials and Talent Show hosted by the lovely Miss Racine Ross. This is another one of those evenings of exceptional talent, and who better to host it than Racine. Sound Factory owner John Gilland also welcomes you to visit his wonderful nightclub in Lake Charles. Crystals is two clubs in one, each side offering its own unique atmosphere. As I have said before, it is well worth the short drive from Lafayette to reward yourself with a Fri. night at Crystals. Thanks to the wonderful staff there for the hospitality they so perfectly display.
Another place where the air conditioning system blows (no comment) is BackStreet. The ambiance Mark and his staff have created is cozy but in a manner very conducive to partying. What a wonderful combination!! A continued feature event is the Saturday Boxer Night. Several of the men in Acadiana have come out sporting their boxers and taken advantage of the great drink specials. It is also an opportunity to see bartender Bryan showcase his latest boxer ensemble. He can be very creative. Mark and company have several plans in the works to bring us events that I know will be well received and appreciated. You will definitely want to look for details in upcoming issues of Ambush for complete details. At this point I must say thank you to the bartender Jason for just being himself-a pleasant, charming person to whom I very much enjoy talking. Mark has managed to find bartenders possessing totally different personalities but all displaying great charisma.
Jules Tavern has seen the return of a few familiar faces. Both Gina and Bobby have returned and are charming the customers with the same great smiles and winning personalities they have always had. This is not to take any credit away from the rest of the crew at Jules. Club owners Ron and Randy have staffed their nightclub with some very sexy and personable individuals. I must say that it is rare to walk up to such a packed bar and not have to wait long, but this place is quick with the service. Make plans to attend the Tues. Night Dinner, catered to your taste. It is an ideal time to enjoy a good meal and meet with friends. Thurs. and Fri. nights bring DJ Ryan Powell with Sat. highlighted by DJ Richie Rich both guaranteeing to play the songs to that keep you on the dance floor. Sat. at Jules has also been known to bring some of the hottest male dancers performing for my/ your/ our pleasure. Just bring lots of dollar bills. The Sunday Karaoke Night with Cody King is still listed as one of my personal favorite events. This little package of dynamite sure can sing me to sleep anytime. You will also want to stop by on Sun. nights and tell Zydeco Big Girl hello. Remember to ask your favorite Jules bartender about the 6th long neck special.
A new image has arrived on the scene at Images. Bartender Skip has joined the already talented crew there to add his own assets to the mix. He is a definite hunk. Regardless of the type of man (or woman) it takes to catch your eye, you will find them on staff at Images. Owners Lori and Dawn have not only provided Acadiana with some cuties, but a spacious club to strut your stuff on the dance floor.
MoJo Madness has been spreading across the Acadiana area! This place stays packed and owners Stevie and Dawn have obviously found out what their clientele wants and successfully keep them coming back for more. Possible reasons for this besides the lovely talent behind the bar may be the great music, drink specials and very pleasant atmosphere. Make sure to stop by and see why all those cars are constantly in the parking lot. I promise Stevie will play the music that will keep you on the dance floor and Dawn will serve drinks with a smile that will make you not want to leave (or be able to for that matter). One event you will definitely not want to miss is The Sherreece Band on Sat., July 24. They will perform some of the hottest dance music and provide you with an evening you will not soon forget. Look for details in upcoming issues of Ambush for events that are currently in the works to help us beat the summer heat.
Special Mentions: First and foremost to Toby, thank you for all the support you have shown to my family and me during our recent unfortunate time. I don't know how I would have made it without your support. Kelly, is the "care package" empty yet? Randal, don't they have phones in Forked Island? Gina, I have found out that when two people go into the bathroom and come out wearing each other's shirts people talk. Mr. Officer, by the way, I don't do cuffs!
