Is Harassment a Problem?A community forum on Police Relations will be hosted on July 9, 6pm, Metropolitan Community Church of Greater New Orleans, 1128 St. Roch Ave. Sponsored by The Mayor's Advisory Committee on Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Affairs; Louisiana Electorate of Gays and Lesbians (LEGAL); Louisiana Gay Political Action Caucus; Lesbian and Gay Community Center of New Orleans; PFLAG; Lesbian Avengers and Gulf Gender Alliance; the forum will address the following questions:
- Have you been harassed or witnessed harassment?
- What is your experience with the complaints process to NOPD [New Orleans Police Department]?
- What is your perspective on zero tolerance?
- Do you feel that New Orleans needs a Citizen Review Board?This forum is an opportunity for aspects of the New Orleans LGBT communities to voice concerns regarding police relations; assess the current situation regarding types and levels of mistreatment of LGBT citizens; and, to develop a strong and proactive response, including outlining recommendations to the NOPD.
LGCCNO Board Elections Set
The Lesbian & Gay Community Center of New Orleans' annual Board of Directors election is set for Monday, July 19, 7pm. All members are urged to attend this election to take an active role shaping the Center's future. To be eligible to vote, membership dues must be paid one month prior to the election.

Author to Sign New Novel
at FM BooksLorenzo Robertson, author of new best-seller Detached (Ishai Books) will meet and greet avid readers as he signs his new novel at the historic Faubourg Marigny Bookstore, 600 Frenchmen, New Orleans, on Fri., July 16th at 6pm.
Set in the late 80's, Detached is the story of mental health counselor, Jon Knight and his emotional detachment to all relationships. Knight is a master at building barriers through the abuse of sex, drugs and alcohol. While he is good at solving everyone else's problems, he doesn't even begin to scratch the surface of his own.
Readers will enjoy the emotional roller coaster that Robertson constructs in the lives of main character Jon Knight and his dysfunctional colleagues, cliques and conquests. Dysfunction has never been this sexy.
Robertson is the president of Ishai (pronounced Ee-shy) Books, a small press publisher in Tampa, FL and the vice-president of The Ishai Creative Group, Inc.; a project development and public/media relations firm also in Tampa, FL.

Berta, Miss Lower Quarter Lantern Trash, reigned over the annual Lantern Trash Party & Buffet hosted by the Golden Lantern. Revelers were urged to show off their favorite "trash fashion" boasting the theme "Out of the trailer ya know!" Berta greeted each reveler at the door sitting on lawn chair with matching side table.
From the door, Berta urshered in each reveler to the massive "trash buffet," serving such delicacies as potted meat pate, beanie wieners, pickled eggs and pigs feet, Ms. Thatcher's Memorial bologna sandwiches, little smokies and hot wings marinated together, au gratin potatoes a la Winston, and the centerpiece Cajun Christmas Tree complete with Vienna sausage, olives and pickled okra.
Ms. Fly's Yellow Party brought in over $4,000 for the Krewe of Petronius at the Corner Pocket. Revelers showed up in every imaginable, or in some cases, unimaginable, yellow garb and creation. The event showcased the talents of Oz's Teryl-Lynn Foxx, Bianca del Rio, and of course, Fly's fireMEN on the bar, highlighting only their very best assets.
All the socialites showed up for this Fly fashion event. This who's who list in the GLBT community included Petronius Captain Mickey, Petronius Ball Lieutenant James, Queen Petronius Tom and all the Petronius boys and girls, Miller's Lisa and honey Quinette, Double Do's Miss Do, Footloose's Todd, Alabama socialite Charlie Hooper, HBY [Has Been of the Year] I Candy Samples portraying hostess Ms. Fly, MRB's Lynn, all the Petunias '- Pete, Hoyle, Drew, Joe, Miss Paul and Mr. Tony - Lucky Cheng's Samson [aka Paloma], Lisa Beaumann, Miss LeRoundup/Footloose Felina Colby Shane, Dione, and many, many more.
New Orleans legend Miss Fury was feted with a tribute show at Footloose. Many other New Orleans famous showgirls took to the stage honoring and saluting one of the Quarter's most famous personalities. Miss Fury worked for many years for the late Gene Haus at his Club Midship on Iberville.
Fury came from the turbulent years which included the tragic Upstairs fire. Harassed and arrested many times for her chosen life-style as a Transsexual, Fury helped lay the groundwork for the rights so many of us take for granted today.
The legend is noted for the numerous individuals she took under her wing, shaping their careers and futures as viable assets to the GLBT community.
International singing sensation Abigail ruled Oz's 7th Neon anniversary blowout. The stage diva electrified dance revelers proving once again why Oz is constantly chosen as New Orleans #1 dance club. The most recent win comes from Rolling Stone magazine. Oz has also won by popular vote, Dance Bar and Show Bar of the Year for the past 3 years at the Gay Appreciation Awards.
Boasting some of the friendliest bartenders in the City, Oz also boasts an award winning DJ staff including Tim Pflueger, Joe Gauthreaux and Scott Horner.
Gorgeous and talented Felina Colby Shane was crowned Miss Gay Louisiana Universe. Miss Gay Universe Lindsey Adams did the honors following a star studded show at LeRoundup. Handsome Mr. Gay Globe Universe Tino Lerma emceed the dazzling event.
BLK was first runner-up and will join Felina representing Louisiana in the upcoming prestigious Miss Gay Universe Pageant in Dallas at Bamboleo's July 28-30.
New Orleans newest club, Society Page Lounge, is set to open in August at 542 N. Rampart. Local celebrity Regina Adams is opening the new club which will be managed by Phil Giorlando of Ziggie's fame.
The club is currently being renovated, and will bring new life to the corner of N. Rampart and Toulouse. Regina and Phil have quite a few surprises in store for bar patrons. They're keeping things under wraps, so watch for the latest info here in Ambush, New Orleans' favorite bar rag.
Pensacola's Emerald City just celebrated its 1st anniversary with its giant Mirror Ball blowout. Fabu managers Ted and PR kept revelers happy with free shots and some of their famous hors d'oeurvres. And of course, hit dj Dwight Barkley cornered the spotlight at this hot club scene with all the latest and greatest dance hits.
