The alleged con-men have struck again. It has come to my attention that a new Ms. Freedoms was crowned recently at Freedoms Bar. There was no notification of any improper behavior or of any neglect in performing as required when notified by the then current Ms. Freedoms, Dot Breaux.

To me it seems as though these two have taken advantage of an opportunity to take over since the sale of Freedoms fell through due to a few technicalities. Again, it seems as though these two have jumped in at a weak moment to attain their somewhat shady objectives.

It further amazes me that when tragedy struck the true Ms. Freedoms, it was not Freedoms that came to her hour of need. Dot lost her first grandchild prematurely. While there is never a good time to lose a loved one, this was even worst timing as Dot is currently unemployed. So in order to help defray the expense of the burial, it has been CHEERS, owned by Pat Bergeron, who has come to her aide by offering to hold a benefit in her honor.

I find it awfully strange that the same bar she represents, or should I say represented, did not come forward with even so much as a card of sympathy. What is wrong with this picture?

But then, maybe there is going to be a monthly Ms. Freedoms pageant. Or until the alleged cons find one that will not question their ethics. Regards,
--Cheryl "Mama" Caillouet

Dear Readers:
The Imperial Court System is an inclusive organization serving the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transsexual communities that has 65 chapters spread throughout the United States, Canada and a new chapter in London. This organization is dedicated to helping those in need and is responsible for raising millions of dollars each year for various charitable organizations. Many of it's leaders have stood and still stand on the front lines fighting for respect, dignity and the rights of each of us. Membership is open to ANY person of legal age within the community.

Austin, TX is lucky to have a chapter of this organization. On Aug. 8, 1998, at Cornerstone Gay and Lesbian Community Center from 9am until 6pm they will be holding elections for the leaders of this organization for the coming year. Known as Emperor and Empress, the community at large is allowed and encouraged to vote to elect the two people that will guide this organization toward the next millennium. Anyone residing in Travis or the 7 surrounding counties who is over 18 years of age and has a valid ID can vote. This is, I believe, the only charitable organization in Austin where the public elects the leadership. I would encourage all to get out and vote, to use the power of their opinion to help shape this organization.

My name is Bob Hemby and I am a candidate for Emperor. I have been visibly involved in fundraising for over 10 years and have a proven track record of dedication to the community in which we live. As a member of the United Court of Austin since 1995 and also as one of the Austin Babtist Women, I have worked over 148 dates for various charities throughout the past year.

I am proud to serve this community and would ask for your vote to continue to strive to make a change and a difference in the world around us. I am humbled to have the support of many within the non-profit community such as members of Club Skirt, The Octopus Club, Project Transitions, The C.A.R.E. Program and Cornerstone. The theme of my campaign has been 'Believe' because I do believe in a world where violence and disease are no longer tolerated or accepted simply as a fact of life. I do believe in a world where all people can hold their heads high, unashamed and unafraid. I believe in a society where all are accepted not simply assimilated. I do believe that within each of us we have the power to create this world. If elected I will do my best to earn the community's respect and will work hard to secure a world where Pride, Integrity, Harmony and Dignity are not simply buzzwords but a reality.

Please do take the time to exercise the power within yourself and vote on Sat., Aug. 8. Help me make a change. Help me work toward a world which we can all believe in. Thank you for your support.
--Bob Hemby, Candidate for Emperor V, United Court of Austin

Dear Mr. & Mrs. Naquin-Delain,
Thank you for the donation of the free advertisement for the Red White & You Weekend fundraiser. We, at Body Positive, really appreciate your support and contributions to our cause, especially in this first year of our Wellness Center. The party was a great success. Through the generosity of our underwriters and donors, we were able to raise over $40,000 in contributions and ticket sales for the Big Bang event alone. The proceeds from this event will be used to help fund the first year of operations for our new wellness Center.

The Wellness Center has recently opened to serve those challenged with HIV through resistance weight training, nutritional counseling and assessment, nutritional supplements, massage and other relaxation therapies, education, peer counseling, and support groups. We are grateful that you are helping make that possible.

It is only with the assistance of our friends like you that we are able to help individuals affected with HIV/AIDS as they strive to maintain a positive life experience. Thank you for caring about the lives of others. Sincerely,
--Pete Sharpe & Todd Ramos, Event Co-Chairs
