Special entertainment begins at noon, after the WALKers complete the route.
Proceeds raised from the WALK are used to fund the critically needed services and programs of NO/AIDS Task Force. A portion of the proceeds are also awarded in grants to other AIDS service organizations throughout the state. There is no registration fee for the WALK; however, participants are expected to turn in pledge sheets of donations collected from family, friends, co-workers and others. To Benefit Nine Community GroupsWhen WB38 takes to the airwaves on Sept. 20 for its annual four-hour telethon, the station won't be dunning its viewers for money. Instead, it will asking citizens of the greater New Orleans area to pledge community service hours. That's why it's called the Do Something Volunteer-a-thon. Viewers will be treated to four hours of premium entertainment in exchange for committing to assist local organizations to make a difference in our community.

The goal for 1998 is a commitment of at least 80,000 volunteer hours. Volunteer service hours will be raised for the following organizations: Each One Save One - a mentoring organization for you; Reach Out and Read - reading books to children in hospital waiting rooms; Recreate New Orleans - sports league program for young people; Christmas in October - program to renovate the homes of needy residents; Methodist Home - mentoring and group activities for children 7-18 who are residents of this state-funded facility for abused, abandoned and neglected children; and, Home Heart and Help - provides services to the homeless and needy in our community.
On a secondary level, volunteers can also pledge their time to Proud To Call It Home, Career Speak and Youth Health Outreach.
To participate in the Do Something Volunteer-a-thon, tune in to WB38-TV (channel 13 on cable) on Sun., Sept. 20 from 2pm to 6pm. Then call in and pledge your commitment to volunteer. Telephones will be manned by station employees and members of the Young Leadership Council.

Boot Camp Pride Dance & Party 1998
Boot Camp, in Dallas, TX, is celebrating a long history with Gay Pride Parade. Boot Camp started as a private party in the Bluffview area sponsored by private individuals to raise money for AIDS organizations. Two years ago, with over 900 people in attendance, it was decided that the event had grown too large and should be taken to a public venue. Last year Boot Camp was held in the large circus tent in the paid parking lot behind Special Blend. Over a 1,100 people came through the doors raising over $17,000 for Immunocise and the Cathedral of Hope.
Dallas' only independent Gay pride dance and party will take place on Sat., Sept. 26. Boot Camp, formerly Camp Bluffview, will once again be held in the large tent pavilion in the paid parking lot behind Special Blend with the addition of climate control units to keep the temperature down and the dancing hot. The doors will open at 10pm with an incredible sound and light show. Jimmy Spalding, from the Gray Party and the Indianapolis 500 parties, will be spinning the music with the fabulous Jimmy Jenkins at the helm of the light show. Boot Camp will also continue the tradition of an open bar all night featuring Absolute Vodka, Parrot Bay Rum, beer from Budweiser, mixers from Ocean Spray and Pepsi, and bottled water from Evian. The cost is $20.00 and everyone will be stamped so they will be able to enjoy the festivities on the street and reenter the party as they wish. You must be 21 and up to enter.
The corporate sponsors for this year's Boot Camp Pride Dance include: Caven Enterprises, Centrum Sports Club, The Dallas Voice, Absolute Vodka, Parrot Bay Rum, Budweiser, Evian spring water, Ocean Spray, Pepsi, and ID Lube.
All proceeds from this event will be donated to Immunocise. Immunocise is going to donate a percentage of the profits to the Cathedral of Hope Bell Tower Project and Cheer Dallas.
