The reason I am hosting so many parties is that I wanted to include all the Austin bars and clubs I support throughout the year from Ambush. It makes it special to share my 40th, (or is that 39th because we are in 2001 and I get to subtract a year) with everyone from every walk of GLBT life in Austin. I hope all will come out for the frolics and fun of the "Dawning of the Age of Aquarius." For more info. e-mail me at

New Year's Eve Celebrations Go Wild

New Year's Eve parties this past 2000-2001 were plenty and wild as many Austinites braved cold and wet weather locally or traveled elsewhere in the country or the world for festivities. Austin hosted many festivities from `Bout Time to Chain Drive and everywhere in between. The weekend started as I could not drink all weekend due to a stomach virus but made visits to Chain Drive, Dick's, Charlies.Austin and `Bout Time. The venues were all still decorated for Christmas with some New Year's Eve flair thrown in and fun was had by all. New Year's Eve day & night on Sun. started with cold weather and rain, however the rain subsided by nightfall. Quick stops again into Charlies.Austin and the 1920's Club held festive decorations inside Charlies.Austin and food prepared by Farhad at 1920's with a great diva show and dancers. Next it was off to Rainbow Cattle Company where the cowboys and cowgirls were whooping up the holiday flare in style and boots. My date for the evening was a local named Rich and we also traveled to Boyz Cellar for their elaborate decorations, red lava lamps and crowds aplenty. Next door at Oilcan Harry's we noticed the great #1 Ice Sculpture representing 2001 and balloons and streamers that adorned the club. Over at Splash, we met and danced to DJ Troy Sands (Dallas) with a festive crowd. By the time 11:30pm hit, it was off to the Forum to ring in the New Year with their great buffet and rooftop fun as Rich and I kissed in the New Year on the cold rooftop with fireworks bursting off in the distance. We never made it to 6th St. where 1000's reveled and missed the great drama of the New Year's ball breaking from the crane and swinging loosely above the crowd's heads but nobody got hurt. The rest of the night was spent bar hopping throughout Guytown until we retired at 2am. We missed the great parties of Jason & Chad's and also the New Year's Eve sling party up in north Austin.

Over in Palm Springs, CA for New Year's, DJ Joe Gauthreaux hosted "Boys with Bad Habits" while "It's All About You" also took place with DJs Don Bishop and Roland Belarmes. Austinite Marty Bender met friends from Phoenix and San Francisco while David Wilson, Paul Hardy and Steve Barteck also attended. Marty said the DJs were so fabulous that at one time, he was almost killed by a falling piece of chandelier caused by the vibrations from Roland's FAB music. In Miami, many Austinites gathered for Jeffrey Sanker's "Beach Ball" with DJs Brett Henrichsen and Tracy Young. "Federation," also by Sanker, had DJs Boy George & DJ Ra. Lastly in Miami, DJs Abel, Manny Lehman, and Mark Anthony rang in New Year's Eve 2001. Dr. Mike Escobedo from Austin attended these events and claimed he had a blast along with 1000's of others. Across the seas in Amsterdam, friends and former Austinites JJ and Scott rang in the New Year in style at the Cock Ring among other places.

Down across the border in Acapulco for New Year's Eve celebrations, Austinites David, Jordan, Jed, Jimmy, Andy, Mitch, Steve, Chad, Mark, Cleve, Brandon, Brent, DeWayne, and Tom had wild fun. Rumors about their trip have surfaced and aside from the cabana boys that came with the guesthouse and were used frequently, a couple of other stories made interest from their trip. There were dick dancers and the party favor incident with the boyfriend, the three travelers who made one Austinite make his way back to their hotel to proceed in a compromising position when one of their boyfriends walks in and the encounter turned out fruitless. The original Villa the 14 were staying in sold before they got there, so the group scattered to many accommodations rather than stay in the other house provided that was in a state of disrepair only added to great New Year's Eve favor across the border. This was in addition to the one Austinite who was kicked out of their hotel for bringing home an underage man of 15 years. Most of their trip was spent getting massages and buying useless trinkets from the beach or drinking toxic margaritas. It seems all the boys made it back from all over the World as we all met up at Splash last Sat., Jan. 6 for DJ Ro's guest spinning. A New Year's countdown was even done for all on the dance floor when midnight came around bringing all of Austin back home in celebration of the New Year. New Year's Day was spent NY many in recovery or with family & friends and lots of black-eyed peas and football. Merry New Year 2001.
