Politics Better Than Usual
A vote for Chief Justice Pascal Calogero is a vote for equal rights under the law. In the Gay community, Justice Calogero is endorsed by Ambush Mag 2000, LAGPAC and Forum for Equality. LAGPAC has endorsed Justice Calogero since 1988.
After a recent interview, Justice Calogero, for a person in his prestigious position, was found to be a friendly and gentle man. His obvious love of the law and concern for his responsibilities makes him a strong defender of justice.
Questioned about the negative advertisement from his opponent, he answered by saying that based on public records alone, his opponent is not fit for the position. In light of the inflammatory and misleading ads, Justice Calogero has come to realize that it is necessary to fight fire with fire.
Ads voicing the other side of the story started Sept. 21 and will run through election day. Justice Calogero believes the motives for his opponent's approach is due to his poor showing in ratings and polls.
Justice Calogero is a life-long Democrat, native of New Orleans and has served on the First Supreme Court for 25 years. He's also the proud father of ten children. He received a Juris Doctor degree from Loyola School of Law where he graduated first in his class and was President of the Student Editorial Board of the Loyola Law Review. He served three years in the U.S. Army in the Military Police and was a Judge Advocate General Corps Officer. In 1992, he received a Master of Laws Degree from the University of Virginia.
Justice Calogero's life has been one of service to the people of Orleans, Jefferson, St. Bernard and Plaquemines Parishes. His awards include the La. Bar Foundation's 1991 Distinguished Jurist Award, the 1995 Distinguished National Jurist by the Indiana University School of Law, and the American Judges Association's 1996 Judge Bob Jones Memorial Award for significant contributions to judicial education.
A vote for Justice Pascal Calogero makes good sense for us as individuals and for our Gay community. As we say in "Luziana," vote early and often. Election day is October 3rd.
