Howdy Ho from the Capital City of the Lone Star State. Valentine's Day is my Birthday! Wahoo! Happy "VD" day this month to all. My true birthday wish is to find that special soul mate. Geminis, Aries and Sagittarius are a plus for a loveable Aquarius like myself, but others can be considered. Applications are currently being accepted with one on one interviewing to take place. Are you the man for me? Meanwhile, for those of you that may not have noticed, Ambush Magazine 2000 fantastic web sites had over 18 million hits last year. Austin is hosting awards! The Community Collaboration Awards Program is hosted by Citysearch.com and United Way/Capital Area. This program recognizes individuals, organizations and businesses whose efforts have helped improve the quality of life for residents in our community. The inaugural ceremony will take place on Apr. 6 at the Marriott at the Capital. The deadline for submitting nominations is Feb. 14. Nomination forms are available by contacting Robin Loving, community relations manager of CitySearch at 512.494.2140 or on the web at http://austin.citysearch.com.

On Friday, Feb. 20 make plans to attend "A Mardi Gras Masked Ball" hosted at the Four Seasons Hotel sponsored by Aids Services of Austin (ASA) and benefiting the Jack Sansing HIV Dental Clinic. The party starts at 8pm with tickets at $75 per person for general admission or $125 per person with reserved seating. A live auction will take place for special prizes plus Chairs for Charity. The event also includes a buffet, open bar, silent auctions and music by Capital Retro. For more information and reservations, call 512.406.6175.

Travel back in time to the 1920's Club. Located at 918 Congress Ave., 1920's Club serves drinks, specialty Martinis and food in a 1920's atmosphere. 1920's is a place to relax and meet your friends in the comfortable bar or cozy mezzanine loft. Hours are Mon. - Fri., 4pm til 2am and Sat. from 6pm til 2am. They are closed Suns. Check out their unique web site at www.1920s.com.

Come hang out at 'Bout Time. Recently The Texas Gay Rodeo Association (TGRA) hosted a 'Bout Time Girl Show which raised $500 benefiting TGRA Charities and the Women's Battered Center. Way to go guys! Come out this Sat., Feb. 7 for a United Court of Austin Drag Show starting at 10:30pm to benefit Pediatric Aids League. Festivities begin every Tues. with weekly Dart Tournaments for prizes at 9pm. Also on Tues., Bout Time gives away cash to lucky winning patrons. Thurs. is the weekly Pool Tournament starting at 9pm for cash prizes. Don't forget, Bout Time is the only Bar in Austin open at 7am everyday Mon-Sat. Come on out for your morning wake-up.

Let er rip over at Chain Drive. Their recent Lunar New Year Party celebrating the year of the Tiger was a huge success. The highlights of the weekend were the Asian Underwear Party where patrons flaunted their wares and with Jeffery Bays, Mr. Texas Drummer 97-98, display of playtime techniques in the dungeon. Coming up on Valentine's Day, its their "Nuts and Bolts -Screw Valentines Day" Party. Check the bar for more details. Tues. at the Chain are $1 Well and Snapps all day and night long. While at the Drive, don't forget to visit the Leather Chest inside, Open Weds. - Sat 8pm - 1am for all your leather and playtime needs.

Check in at Charlie's for fun. They boast having the most free parking in town of any other bar and if you have tried parking downtown lately, you know they mean it! Starting this Sun., Feb. 8 at 11:30pm, Ms Lauren Taylor returns with her flawless Drag Show. On Valentine's Day, Sat., the 14th, it's their "Hard-On" party with red drink specials all night long.

Tuesday's at Charlie's is Steak and Chicken Dinner Night from 6-8pm. Don't miss out on another flawless Drag Show Thursdays with Ms. Nacha Type at 12 midnight. Coming up Mardi Gras weekend, Charlie's will be giving free beads and offering drink specials toasting the 1998 Mardi Gras Season.

Come out and live at The Edge. Celebrating their 1-year anniversary this month, the Edge starts the week off on Mondays with 80's Retro all night long and $5 Dollar Buy-In Specials. Tuesday's is "Beat the Clock" happy hour specials from 4-9pm with Karaoke Night from 7-12:30am. It's Happy Hour all day and night long on Wednesdays. Thursdays present Beat the Clock Happy Hour and $2 Domestics all night and Freak 'Quency is the theme with music by Bang from 9-2pm. Friday & Saturday get hopping with Happy Hour til 9pm and Dance music by Don Engle & Bang from 9-2pm. Sundays round out the week with Happy Hour til 9pm, Karaoke from 7-11 and Don Engle's Beat from 11 -2 am. Boot scoot and boogie at Country Edge. Their recent Grand Opening was a hoot- n-holler good time where lucky patrons won cowboy hats and boots. The night brought in the folks via free limo rides from the downtown area and Manager Warren Mills claims it was one of their best nights ever. Coming up on Feb. 14, at 7pm, they will host "Under Cover" live benefiting LEZBOLYMPIX '98. Country Edge is closed on Mondays, but gear up Tuesday - Saturday from 3pm - 2am and Sundays from 2pm to 2am. On Thursdays it is Classic County with $1.50 domestics and well and free pool. Friday and Saturday is Dance Night at County Edge.

Do it at The Forum. It was a smashing grand time two weeks ago where some 450 plus Circuit Boys partied until 8am the next morning until they were finally swept to the curve at Circuit Night Austin. DJ Darin Arrowood from Atlanta rocked the house, literally! Kudos to owner, Mark Haworth, Ben Parsley & Slash Productions for the great bash! The next Circuit Night Austin will be held on Feb. 28 with DJ Brian Norwood from Philadelphia. Don't miss it. Recently, Happy Hour "Good Morning" Bartender Kindell had his manservants slosh free cocktails to lucky patrons celebrating his one-year anniversary and Fred's baby Braxton birth. Thanks for the drinks and fun time Kindell! Coming up on Feb. 12, the Star Search Finalist Show with Kelly Kline will be hosted. Every day at The Forum is Happy Hour with $2 well, $2 domestic and $3.50 calls from 2-9pm. Fridays, Happy Hour is extended til 11pm every Wed., It's "Back to the Boathouse" night with great drink specials.

Change your attitude at OilCan Harry's. Oilcan Harry's is still buzzing from their recent 7th Anniversary Luau Weekend Party where the place was decorated Hawaiian style complete with customers getting "lei" in the bar. Great job Matthews and team! Coming up on Feb. 11, OilCans will be sponsoring again their original "Full Moon Tee" Party with semi-finalists at 11pm and a finalist display showing at 12 Midnight. Last month's winner who displayed his cute full moon was none other than Doug who took home $250 in cash. See a picture of this winner in the Austin Express section of this publication. Every Wed. night come on out and see if you have mail from your male at MaleBox Nite hosted by Terrance. Later this month, look for details on Oilcan's Mardi Gras celebration. On Sundays, its Hangover Harry's Tea Dance with Miss H and featuring Mimosas for a buck and Bloody Marys for only two bucks from 2-7pm.

Two step over to the Rainbow Cattle Company. RCC recently hosted a grand old time with Dee Dee Davis and a "Night with Dolly, One for a Friend," benefiting the local HIV Wellness and Pediatric Aids League. Coming up Feb. 15, another grand old time can be had when the Austin Baptist Women host a Valentine's Show at 8:30pm, "The Beat Goes On." Festivities will include comedy, singing, illusions, plus many surprises all to benefit United Court Charities and the HIV Wellness Center. On Sun. the 22nd, look for their "Wrangler Butts Drive Me Nuts" Contest at 10:30pm. Every Tuesday at RCC, they feature free County Dance Lessons beginning at 8pm, with dancing at 9:30pm. Wed features weekly Karoake at 8:30pm benefiting HIV Wellness and CARE . It's Steak and Grilled Chicken Night on Thurs. from 6pm - 8:30pm. Don't forget that RCC features shuffleboard, pool and darts for your entertainment.

Rhythm House, a Tapas Bar, is located at 624 W. 34th St. between Guadalupe and Lamar. The House features live music almost nightly with Jazz, Rhythm and Blues and Flamingo Music. Lunch is served Mon. - Fri. from 11-2pm and dinner from 4-10pm. Happy Hour is from 4 -7pm. Come out and snuggle up to their indoor/outdoor fireplaces and enjoy the moments.

Twist, located at 505 Neches, is open 7 days a week from 5 pm. til 2 am. Twist is the place to be and dance the night away with Rebirth on Thursdays, Science Fiction Soul on Fridays and Lava Lounge on Saturdays. There are pool tables for play but it's the nights when Twist really gets hopping. A great specialty at Twist is their $2.50 Martini Pints till 10pm.

The Gentlemen's Club is at Midtowne Spa. Experience it! Coming on Feb. 6 and 20 Erotic Massage classes will be hosted. On Valentine's Day, they are featuring their "Luv Ball" Party. On Sat., the 21st, it's their Mardi Gras Dance Contest. Every Tuesday is "Chicken Night" where 18-25 year olds will receive Free Lockers. On Wednesdays, all patrons receive half price rooms and lockers. On Fridays and Saturdays, Midtowne suggests that you come and get your room(s) rented early before 11:30pm because they always get "packed." In and Out Passes are available.
