The OZ Parties Commence This Month
[by Austinite Stuart Wayne Oretgo, organizer for The OZ Parties]

The OZ Parties is a non-profit social organization created to provide opportunities for HIV+ singles to meet in comfortable settings for friendship and dating. Developed by several HIV+ individuals on a volunteer basis, it was formed to fill an unmet need evident in the HIV community, and intends to serve Gay, Straight, Bisexual and Transgender individuals. The OZ Parties is neither affiliated with nor sponsored by any community-based organization, business or individual; however, AIDS Services of Austin (ASA) and the HIV Wellness Center do assist in providing advertising opportunities in their client newsletters.

The OZ Parties' next large singles social is scheduled for Fri., Feb. 12, 5-9p.m. The Forum, located at 408 Congress Ave. in Austin, is sponsoring this event in their upstairs tented bar, and is offering special drink prices for guests of The OZ Parties. This Mardi Gras celebration will also include Cajun buffet appetizers provided by The Forum, and a $5 entry contribution toward The OZ Parties is suggested, but not required. Contributions help to fund this and future quarterly social events; however, no one is ever turned away from events because of an inability to contribute. As mentioned above, The OZ Parties has no formal financial support from any source, and relies upon contributions & volunteer efforts from guests & community establishments for its continued success.

The OZ Parties develops meeting opportunities for HIV+ singles through large quarterly socials in various settings throughout the city, including community centers, nightclubs and outdoor areas. Plans for summer and fall quarterly socials are already in discussion. In addition to the large quarterly socials, we are coordinating smaller monthly activities in the community, such as bowling, movie or skating nights, held during the second full week of each month. The OZ Parties next event will be in Mar. with a movie night. The OZ Parties may be reached for additional information at 512.406.6408 for announcements of upcoming quarterly & monthly activities for any questions, suggestions or offers to contribute & volunteer.
