LAFAYETTE, LOUISIANA

Mardi Gras is finally over, and I for one had an absolute blast. Between the balls and the parades and the parties, I don’t think it could have been any better. And I can definitely say that Acadiana really knows how to celebrate Carnival. But just because Mardi Gras is behind us doesn’t mean the fun in Lafayette is over. In fact, the calendar for the next few weeks is packed with fun things to do.

Gabriel’s Bar and Restaurant had a fabulous Mardi Gras party on Sun., March 2, and it was unbelievable. Their was great food and fun for everyone. Brad really went all the way when he was planning this blowout. There was live music and dancing. It was an all around good time.

But even if you missed the party, stop by Gabriel’s in downtown St. Martinville for the best in authentic Cajun and creole cuisine. There food is magnificent, and the atmosphere is extremely friendly. It’s a place you can go to enjoy the finest in steak and seafood, and still feel right at home. And don’t forget that Gabriel’s has karaoke every Thursday night. You can enjoy drinks and watch your friends sing to their heart’s content.

The Sound Factory had an all out extravaganza for Mardi Gras. It was packed all day long. John and Mark had hamburgers and spaghetti. It was awesome. Between the parades you could enjoy food and fun with all your friends. And that night they had their usual karaoke party Mardi Gras style. In general, it was a blast.

For those of you who haven’t been by Sound Factory lately, the whole place is being remodeled. John and Mark decided it was time for a new look, and so far they have done a fabulous job. Although they are still working on the left side of the bar, the right side is finished and looks spectacular. The renovations on the left side are still underway and should be completed in a few weeks. And if it comes out anything like has been described to me, Sound Factory is going to be one of the hottest bars around.

And don’t worry about missing out on anything because of the renovation process. Sound Factory is still open seven days a week and still offers their unsurpassable weekly lineup.

Every Monday they have Happy Hour all night long.

Every Tuesday night Sound Factory has a karaoke party like no other. You can drink and party and listen to all you friends sing the night away.

Wednesdays you’ll find some of the sexiest male dancers at Sound Factory. And as always, you don’t have to worry about a cover charge.

Every Thursday is "Drink N Drown." That means you can enjoy all your favorite well cocktails for only eight dollars. And if you’re not in the mood to drink, it doesn’t cost you a cent. But don’t think the great specials end just because the weekend gets here.

Every Friday night at Sound Factory you can enjoy Big Girl Cocktails for only $3.75 all night long. That’s like getting two great drinks for the price of one.

And Saturdays are just as good with "Get A Long One for Less" Night. You can enjoy your favorite domestic long-necks for $2 all night long.

Sundays are the wildest night of the week at Sound Factory. They’re open from noon until midnight. That’s twelve hours of fun beginning their now famous potluck lunch and ending with their weekly "Drag Races." Now that’s a party you don’t want to miss.

And don’t forget, on March 21 - 23, 2003, the Sound Factory and Shania Scarlett will present Miss Gay Louisiana USofA 2003. This is going to be a fabulous show and will have many of your favorite entertainers performing, not to mention the competition is always breathtaking.

So if you thought the fun was going to end with Mardi Gras, think again. Sound Factory is working hard to make sure there is always something fun to do in the gay community.

Backstreet Men’s Club was packed all day Mardi Gras. There were people everywhere enjoying the fun filled atmosphere. People had everything from beads to fabulous hats. And of course Backstreet celebrated Mardi Gras with their own unique twist, refraining from so much of the loud music that engulfs so many other bars.

But even when it’s not a holiday, Backstreet Men’s Club offers an alternative to the ordinary club. They have darts and pool and even a pinball machine. It’s a place where you can sit down with your friends and actually enjoy a good conversation. And if you don’t know anybody, don’t worry. It won’t take you long to make some new friends. Because at Backstreet, everybody’s family.

And don’t forget, Backstreet has Happy Hour every day beginning at 5pm. That makes it the perfect place for relaxation after a long day of work. So next time you feel like you need a break from all the loud dance music, drop by Backstreet Men’s Club; you’ll be glad you did.

Jules Downtown had fabulous PreMardi Gras and Mardi Gras Parties. It seemed like everyone was there dancing and enjoying the merriment. People were festive and everybody seemed to be having a blast.

But now that Mardi Gras is past, Danny has some new plans for Jules. Jules Downtown will be closed Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, March 11 - 13 March, for remodeling, and if I know Danny, I’m sure the place will be grand when it reopens on Friday, March 14, 2003. And don’t worry, when it reopens you’ll still be able to enjoy the weekly lineup that so much of Acadiana has come to love.

On Tuesdays, the unforgettable Eureka Fish hosts BINGO Jules’ style. If any of you have ever done this in New Orleans, I know you’re already getting excited. There’ll be cash prizes and a lot of fun and laughs for everyone.

Wednesday nights you can still enjoy the sexy Men of Manwatch. Now this is a crew of hot strippers who have no other goal than to make you hot. Enjoy two for one drinks until midnight as you lust after some of the most talented guys to ever take off their clothes. And if you’re worried about money, don’t. There’s no cover charge. Now that a party.

Thursdays are Dollar Night with DJ Scott Lannie. Enjoy cheap cocktails as you dance the night away to high quality music. And don’t forget about the weekends at Jules. It’s always crowded and always fun. So next time you're out and about in Lafayette, check out Jules Downtown. I’m sure you’ll have a lot of fun.

Whether you traveled or stayed right here in Lafayette, I’m sure everyone had a blast for Mardi Gras. I know I did. This was my second year celebrating Mardi Gras here, and it seems to get better every time. The parades are a blast, not to mention all the other festivities. It’s hard to get back into the groove of every day life, going back to school or work. It’s at least some consolation to know that we live in a community where we can have a great time three hundred sixty-five days a year. Until next time, have fun and be safe.
