THE AFRICAN COMPANY PRESENTS RICHARD III

LSU Theater presents Carlyle Brown's award-winning play about the first African-American drama company in 19th Century America. The Dog and Pony/Michael Arata overstuffed production of Tennessee Williams' classic from last summer is reprised with the original cast led by Shelley Poncy, Michael Arata and Danny Bowen which piggybacks the Tennessee Williams Fest. Mar. 5,6, 7, 14 & 15 at 8pm; Mar. 8, 2pm.

A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE (Ballet)

Under the direction of Allison Gonzalez, the New Orleans Ballet Ensemble presents two dramatic, abstract translations of both Streetcar and Williams' long poem, "In The Winter Of Cities." Streetcar boasts music by Delfeayo Marsalis (the same incidental music he composed for the Arata production );" In The Winter Of Cities" features the thirty member New Orleans Gay Men's Chorus. Alan Bennett's ditzy British comedy invades the north shore with Becky Allen and Michael Bennett starring while partner Lori Bennett does the directing chores-a Bennett production! JOEY n' MARY'S IRISH ITALIAN COMEDY WEDDING

Sandi Bravender presents an interactive theater piece modeled after the highly successful Tony n' Tina's Wedding. The audience becomes members of the wedding party that witnesses the marriage of Joey (Dane Rhodes) and Mary (Julia Lawshue) and then attends the reception where everyone becomes giddier and giddier as the liquor flows. Others in the cast of 19 are Rene Piazza, Gary Rucker, Anne Devcareaux, Sandy Bravender, Michael Sullivan, Terrell Robertson, Phil Blunt, Doris Methe and John Russo. Fri. & Sat., doors open at 6:30pm, wedding at 7:30pm, reception at 8pm, through Mar. 22.

LA TRAVIATA

The New Orleans Opera Association closes the season with Giuseppe Verdi's operatic masterpiece based on Alexandre Dumas' "La Dame aux Camelias" and set in 19th Century Paris. Directed by Adelaide Bishop with sets by David Gano, it stars Maria Spacagna and Vladimir Grishko. Wed., Mar. 18, 7:30pm; Sat., Mar. 21, 8pm.

LES BELLES DEMOISELLES

Written by George Washington Cable, this is an old New Orleans mood piece-a tale of Creole life that revolves around a planter's scheme to cheat his cousin by trading his endangered plantation, Les Belles Demoiselles, for the cousin's French Quarter town house. This concert presentation features John O'Neal, Ray Vrazel & Kathleen Eason Dillon. Music is by Rachel Jordan and Orlin Corey is producer and narrator. Sat., Mar. 14, 10am.

MOON OVER BUFFALO

Ken Ludwig's unsuccessful backstage farce that starred Carol Burnett makes its local premiere in this Stocker Fontelieu directed production which features the Fontelieu players: Walter Bost, Abby Lake, Ed Killeen, Leon Contavesprie, Janet Shea, Gemma Denmark, Kimberly Patterson & Wayne Blankenship. Thurs. - Sat., 8pm, Sun., 2:30pm, thru Apr. 5. Optional buffet available from 6pm Thurs. - Sat., 12noon, Sun.

THE GOOD MAN'S WIFE

Ken Conner's Conner & Associates presents Williams' play about a defrocked alcoholic priest in Mexico and directed by Ken Conner, piggybacking the Williams festival. Thurs. - Sun., 7:30pm. Mar. 6-22.

ORPHEUS DESCENDING

PSYCHO BEACH PARTY

Carl Walker revives this campy, zany Charles Busch gender-bender farce about a perky 60's era valley "girl" who suffers from Multiple Personality Disorder, her butch beach bum friends and her mommie from hell, with a Hollywood starlet (think MM) thrown in, with Jennifer Breedlove as the Mom (think of Joan Crawford swallowing Bette Davis), Brian Rosenberg as the perky Chicklet and Kerry Mendelson as MM. Don't miss this one. Performances are Thurs. & Fri., 8pm; Sat., 6:30pm & 9pm.

Jose Solis-Olivares directs Georg Buchner's tragedy which charts the nightmarish destruction of a common man, a poor soldier named Woyzeck, who is driven to the murder of his lover by a concentration camp universe. It stars Max Arnaud and Rebecca Lovett. Mar. 11-22, Wed. - Sat., 8pm, Sun., 2pm.
