Dear Editor:
New Orleans, the City That Care Forgot, the Crescent City, Sin City. How about Bigot and Hatred City? For the second time since I moved here on Halloween, I have been the victim of HATE.

The first time occurred the weekend before Mardi Gras weekend. I had walked a friend to his car at Burgundy and St. Philip just before 10 p.m. on a busy Saturday night when I was attacked by a group of black men. I was called a "fag" and hit twice in the face. One resulted in a hideous black eye. I was not even mugged. Just hit, because I am a fag.

Tonight, walking home, I was yelled at. "Hey faggot." I responded in words that cannot be printed in a newspaper.

It is time this stops! Hate, is Hate, is Hate. Hate crimes are worse than most people realize. Hate crimes against Jews, African-Americans, Indians, Caucasians, anyone are HATE crimes. Why so much hatred in this city and in this country?

People must be educated to understand differences and to respect those differences. Respect is all I have ever requested. I have never expected, nor required, understanding, acceptance, or God-forbid, love. Just respect.

It is time all Americans respect each other. Sincerely,
