Happy Splash Day 2001. Splash festivities begin for Texas way down south in the Valley from Fri. Apr. 27 - Sun., Apr. 29, with Splash at the New Upper Deck Resort and Crews Quarter's Bar who sponsor their annual Splash Beach and Pool Party all weekend long. On Splash Sun., Apr. 29, from 12 noon to 12am, they offer their strippers, female impersonators, pool, Jacuzzi, volleyball, music, fun and free BBQ from 3-7pm. The longest running and official Splash Day is central Texas's 24th annual Splash Day 2001 held in Austin from Fri. May 4 through Sun., May 6 - Splash Day 2001, starting at 12 noon at Hippie Hollow - Lake Travis. The lake is FULL of water, ya'll. Splash Day 2001 is Austin's first GLBT spring event sponsored by bars, clubs and businesses of the Austin Tavern Guild (ATG). Revelers can obtain free wristbands on Sat. night, May 5; for free beer from kegs at Lake Travis on Sun., Splash Day 2001. Host bar/club businesses will check IDs and give out the wrist bracelets. Hosts for Splash Day 2001 from the ATG are Ambush, 'Bout Time, Boyz Cellar, Chain Drive, Charlie's Austin, Col. Bob Collins, Coors of Austin, Forum, Midtowne Spa, Oilcan Harry's, Pizazz, QTexas, Rain/ip> and the United Court of Austin. Some of the festivities around the city for the weekend include DJ Roland 'Ro' Belmares (LA/Austin) at Splash on Sat., May 5 & then, on Splash Day Sunday, a BBQ cookout on the patio, Video Post Office and retro videos all after the lake. DJ Scot Free spins Fri. at the Forum and then guest DJ Don Bishop (Palm Springs) spins Sat., May 5. On Sun., it's their tea dance with DJ Danny and rooftop cookout after Splash. Girls World climaxes on Mon., May 7 with bikini wrestling on the rooftop. Dick's hosts many festivities including their complimentary HH Buffet on Fri., May 4, then their Imperial Fest by the United Court of Austin with food, fun, shows and music held on Sat. United Court Hosts An Imperial Fiesta - Come celebrate Cinco De Mayo on Sat., May 5, at Dick's Deja Disco. An Imperial Fiesta is being presented by The United Court of Austin and proceeds will benefit The United Court of Austin Charities and Meals on Wheels. The party kicks off at 4pm where special guest DJ for the evening Richard Tijerina will be spinning a mix of Latino music and dance music. Special entertainment will be provided throughout the evening with Roy Lozano's Ballet Folklorico taking the stage at 6pm and 8pm and the Austin Babtist Women taking the stage at 7pm. At 9:30pm enjoy a Super Salsa Show featuring Alix Courtnie, Bebe Hughes, Cecilia Martay, Kelly Kline and others who will delight the audience with special Latino entertainment. A special "We get a kick out of you" raffle will be held with prizes ranging from T-shirts, gift certificates to your favorite Austin establishments and a VCR. All will be given away throughout the evening. A fajita feast will also be served. Celebrate Cinco De Mayo while helping out a worthy cause.
Eeyore Turns 38 - It's time to celebrate our favorite donkey: Eeyore's 38th Annual Birthday Party on Sat., Apr. 28 to be held at Pease Park located between West M.L.K. and W. 15th on N. Lamar starting at 11am until dark. The rain date will be Sat., May 5. Live music will be featured from 12 noon to 6pm. Music is a sound of celebration at Eeyore's Birthday Party and all attendees are asked to bring non-amplified percussion instruments to join in the tribal ritual. Everyone is also asked to wear a costume and costume contests will be held. Eeyore's Birthday Party is a fund-raiser sponsored by the YMCA of the University of Texas and the University Area Partners to benefit themselves and other nonprofit groups in Austin. These groups will be selling hot and cold food (including vegetarian), soft drinks, juices and spring water, domestic and imported beer. Look for commemorative Eeyore cups and T-shirts. Admission is free for the day's event. No parking will be available at the park. Please take the bus, ride a bike, or walk! Free shuttle buses will run from 10am to 8pm between Pease Park and the intersections of 18th & Congress, and 17th & San Jacinto Sts. "Tribal Rain" Brews Memorial Weekend - Austin, the jewel of Texas, is the spot for Memorial Day Weekend when Ben Parsley & Splash Productions present Meltdown 2001- "Tribal Rain" from May 25-27. Party with your friends and their friends in Austin, as Meltdown 2001 kicks off on Fri., May 25 with MYSTIC THUNDER - the official welcome to Austin Party at Radisson Ball Room located at 111 E. Cesar Chavez and Congress Ave. from 10pm - 4am. DJ Phil B (San Francisco) and lighting by Obedient Lighting will be featured. Advance tickets are $20/door $25.
