Rip: I live in South Alabama but I visit N.O. most weekends and, of course, read your mag religiously. As a TG and member of N.O.'s GGA, I am deeply gratified at the support your wonderful publication has provided for us relative to the HRC. As you know, most of us have no particular agenda other than to be left alone to pursue our perhaps unusual alternative lives. And it is so nice to know that others support us. When I read the many supporting letters to the editor in a recent issue, I really felt warmth and togetherness. Most of us TG's gladly support gay and lesbian rights because it is the RIGHT thing to do. Thanks to you and many of your readers for returning the favor.

Life is complicated. And I don't understand everything I'd like to. For example, should I, as a transsexual woman, think of myself as heterosexual if I like men? Or does describing myself as "pan-sexual" include more possibilities than "bisexual?" I do understand some things. I understand that I am a transgendered adult and that my choice to present myself congruently with my gender will not be hidden or (unfortunately) subtle and that this choice will constantly make me an easy target for discrimination, vulnerable to loss (family, friends, career) and even to harm. And I know that these consequences of personal choice also affect any other "outed," marginalized person. I understand and appreciate the interdependence and mutual support among gays, lesbians, bisexuals and transgendered and their organizations. I actually belong to and contribute to a number of them. And I can even sort of understand the Human Right's Campaign's contention that inclusion of transgendered in the ENDA legislation is not politically expedient. (I guess this means that I'm a socially unappealing girl and the HRC isn't ready to let the world know we're dating.) But what I cannot understand is why the HRC, in the privacy of their own tomes, in their mission statement, won't acknowledge transgendered or express support. I really can't see any credible reason for this, except for oversight, at best, or bias, at worst. What's a girl to think?I want to thank those leaders of the New Orleans gay, lesbian, and bisexual community who have had the courage to make transgendered noninclusion by HRC an issue. I deeply appreciate their willingness to boycott the upcoming HRC dinner and to risk criticism on our behalf. I do understand their integrity and compassion.

Greetings:
I edit a local mag in NW Iowa, and wanted to ask a couple of questions about the HRC boycott.Did Ambush Mag 2000 start the boycott? If not, where did it originate? How has it affected your community? Is it only focusing on the May New Orleans HRC Dinner Weekend?
When I came across your site a month ago, I sent emails to several HRC administrators, including Elizabeth Birch. I indicated that my magazine, as well, was dedicated to including the entire GLBT community, and not to put any part of our community on a back burner. I stated that I would put plans on hold to become a full supporter of HRC until such time as they could satisfactorily address the issue. I have yet to receive any sort of reply from any of the four I emailed. Par for the course?
I appreciate your time, and if you can direct me to any other individuals who have information and insights, I'd sure appreciate it. Sincerely

last year my partner and I joined you for your annual celebration of southern decadence. we were told that the colors would be white, silver and teal. my partner and I made teal hats for the occasion and we were sort of disappointed. miss love apparently wasn't informed of the colors because she and her entourage didn't sport that lovely teal shade. in fact a majority of the courtiers did not follow suit or theme. big ???? huh? we hope that this year will be your best festival ever. we already have our rooms and flight tickets. we look forward in knowing what this years colors and theme are so that we may once again create something that will add to this joyous occasion. party on ladies. yours in decadence,

Hi...I'm working on a paper for school about gay bars in America... and I was wondering if you had any estimates on how many there are? Also- do you have any kind of historical background? Any record of the first gay bars in America?... Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thanks,

Subject: History of southern community
Greetings!... and salutations. Hi. I'm a queer (lesbian) soon-to-be college graduate. I'm planning to spend the month of May down in New Orleans, with the hopes of documenting the history of the community, from its inception to the present day I was wondering if you might know of resources that might be of help. Ideally, I'd like to speak with older members of the community about their experiences. I've gained an interest in Gay and Lesbian studies over the past year, ever since I took a class in it as part of my major. Optimally, my plan is to conduct this documentary using photography and audio recordings; nothing and nobody would be recorded without explicit permission. Any suggestions or responce would be appreciated. Thank you in advance. Very Truly Yours,
