Ambush Magazine endorses Frank Perez for City Council, District C

November 12, 2021 By Community Contributor

Ambush Magazine is proud to endorse Frank Perez for New Orleans City Council, District C.  District C includes the French Quarter, Marigny, Bywater, parts of St. Roch and Treme, and all of Algiers.  If elected, Perez would be the first openly gay person ever elected to the New Orleans City Council.

Perez, a long-time French Quarter resident and small business owner, has a long history of advocating for the LGBTQ+ community.  He has written several books on local queer history, co-founded and serves as President of the LGBT+ Archives Project of Louisiana, and developed The Rainbow Fleur de Lis, a walking tour through the city’s LGBTQ+ history.  Perez also teaches part-time at Loyola University and is the founder/Captain of the Krewe de la Rue Royale Revelers.  He has served as Grand Marshal of both Southern Decadence and New Orleans Pride, and is a member of the New Orleans Lesbian and Gay Hospitality Association.

In addition to his LGBTQ+ credentials, Perez is also a neighborhood activist.  Perez is a member of the Sustainable Tourism Task Force, French Quarter Business Association, VCPORA, French Quarter Management District Livability Committee, Friends of the Cabildo, and the Algiers Point Association.  He is also a docent for the Louisiana State Museum, a Board Member of Letters Read, and a tour guide for the Tennessee Williams/New Orleans and Saints & Sinners Literary Festivals.

Election Day is Saturday, November 13. The Perez for City Council campaign’s election night party will be held at Betty’s Bar and Bistro at 700 Burgundy Street in the French Quarter.
