My bartender of the month is a beloved local figure, and I can think of no one more deserving to be highlighted during Pride month than Ashlee Logan from the Corner Pocket. Originally hailing from Starkville, MS, Ashlee relocated to New Orleans the day after her high school graduation on May 21, 1988. This is quite surprising, as she appears to be no older than 35.

After spending years visiting family in the city, she developed a deep affection for New Orleans. “I feel like the city also chose me,” Ashlee remarks with a smile. Her passion for both the city and her workplace is evident. She has been employed at the Corner Pocket for over 28 years, and one can only imagine the experiences she has encountered. She ought to consider writing a book; I would certainly read it.
Throughout her tenure, Ashlee has crafted numerous cocktail recipes, but none are as delightful as the Watermelon Margarita, which includes Tequila, Triple-Sec, Margarita Mix, Watermelon Pucker, and a squeeze of lime, all shaken together. Additionally, the Blue Raspberry Lemon Drop, made with Raspberry Vodka, Blue Curacao, and Sour-Mix, is another vibrant and potent concoction.
Generally, Ashlee does not consume alcohol, but she occasionally enjoys sweet wine or beer, steering clear of hard liquor. Besides dedicating most of her time to the Corner Pocket, she often visits Crossing for her morning coffee due to its convenient location just across the street from her home.
Ashlee is an exceptional bartender. She possesses a sharp wit, maintains a professional demeanor, and is always in high spirits, with her most notable trait being her vibrant personality. I would like to highlight her professional attitude, which, combined with her captivating charm, establishes Ashlee as one of the most favored and well-regarded bartenders in the city.
“I enjoy bartending because I am a people person, and it allows my personality to shine. I have a deep affection for this bar and treat it as if it were my own business.” That speaks volumes. Having outstanding employees who are passionate about their work and the establishment they are part of should be the aspiration of every employer. The adage remains valid, “if you love what you do, you never work a day in your life.” I recognize that it is a cliché, but I genuinely believe in this.
I inquired of Ashlee about the funniest or most outrageous incident she has observed at the Corner Pocket. While I am certain there are numerous stories, she selected this amusing one. “Years ago, I worked the overnight shift, and a young heterosexual couple was engaging in sexual activity in their car when the police arrived and required them to exit the vehicle unclothed for a brief period before they were permitted to dress. I was treated to an unexpected show at the side door of the bar.”
I love her answer to the question about pet peeves regarding things customers do. “Fortunately I have no pet peeves, so I never get annoyed.” “Stay focused and positive” is a great motto these days and do not let anyone get under your skin.
Ashlee also has quite another community-driven side to her. She volunteers at the homeless shelter, The Ozanam Inn, giving them over 33 years of service thus far. She also went to college for Criminal Justice and Real Estate. Bartending is her love.
You too can experience the joy of Ashlee at the Corner Pocket (940 St. Louis Street in the French Quarter) at any one of her shifts – Monday and Friday Noon-7, and Saturday 9m til close.
