Bartender of the Month – October 2025

October 22, 2025 By Tony Leggio

I am thrilled whenever a new LGBTQ+ bar opens in the city, and it was at one such establishment that I found my Bartender of the Month for October. Wifey’s, a fresh addition to the scene, may be familiar to locals under its previous name, Iggy’s. This vibrant queer hotspot in the Faubourg Marigny boasts an exceptional staff, and Ambush’s newest featured bartender is someone many will recognize: Ginger Miller.

A formidable presence behind the bar, Ginger previously worked at Iggy’s and the Bourbon Pub & Parade during their busiest seasons. Although she is relatively new to bartending, having started just three years ago, her efficiency and professionalism are impressive. Originally from Minnesota, she relocated to New Orleans to escape the harsh winters, having first visited the city in October for her birthday and Halloween celebrations. Like many newcomers, she feels that New Orleans has a unique ability to capture one’s heart, making it impossible to leave. Interestingly, while her “street” name is Ginger, her government name is Susan.

Ginger is known for crafting exceptional drinks, including a delightful shot named the Queen Lisa, which combines Crown Royal, Watermelon Pucker, and a splash of cranberry juice. This cocktail is shaken with ice and strained, serving as a fitting tribute to a beloved bartender from Iggy’s who tragically lost her life in a car accident years ago. Naming a drink after someone is a wonderful way to honor their memory.

Among her many qualities, Ginger considers her friendly personality and sharp sense of humor to be her greatest assets behind the bar. While she hasn’t encountered anything particularly outrageous during her bartending career, she recalls a peculiar incident from her second visit to New Orleans. While dancing on Bourbon Street, a man approached her, complimented her scent, and unexpectedly removed her shoes to suck on her toes, despite her having worn mules in the sweltering heat. This experience certainly falls into the category of the bizarre, but to each their own.

Wifey’s has become a valuable addition to the queer bar landscape, with Ginger expressing her appreciation for its evolution into a neighborhood gathering spot. The diverse clientele that frequents the bar is a testament to its welcoming atmosphere, where everyone can feel safe and included. Ginger particularly enjoys crafting the visually appealing and refreshing Blue Lemondrop cocktail, although her personal go-to drink is a simple vodka and Diet Coke.

One of her pet peeves behind the bar is when customers shout her name and drink orders while her back is turned; she encourages patrons to wait for her to face them so she can provide her full attention and avoid any need for repetition.

In addition to her bartending skills, Ginger is musically talented, having mastered several instruments including the piano, oboe, and violin. For those interested in experiencing Ginger’s vocal talents, Wifey’s hosts Karaoke nights every Wednesday from 8 p.m. to midnight.

Wifey’s is conveniently located at 1943 North Rampart Street, where Ginger can be found working on Sundays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and alternating Thursdays from 4 p.m. to midnight.
