Pride Center Grand Opening April 6

March 29, 2024 By Frank Perez

The New Orleans Pride Center will have its Grand Opening on April 6 from 2:00pm to 5:00pm at The Broadside NOLA.

The Grand Opening will take place in two parts. At the Broadside, the New Orleans Pride Center will announce its plans for the upcoming year, including forthcoming programs. The afternoon is planned as a celebration of the beauty and talent of the New Orleans queer communities and will feature music from Mia Borders and drag performances led by April May of Big Gay Baby. Following will be a second line to the Center’s new space just a few blocks away at the WHIV radio station. Once there, a tour of the new space will be provided.

The mission of the New Orleans Pride Center is to provide a welcoming, inclusive hub for local and regional LGBTQ2IA+ individuals and communities where all feel safe to celebrate their authentic selves and thrive through connection.

According to the group’s website, the vision of the New Orleans Pride Center is: “A permanent, sustainable community center that facilitates a connection-centered, equitable, and joyful existence for LGBTQ2IA+ individuals and communities in New Orleans and the Gulf South.”

The group’s website also lists the following as the Pride Center’s values: “We prioritize collaboration and respect among individuals and organizations in our region. Acknowledging past harms and inequities, we are committed to equity and inclusion through concrete practices and policies, creating pathways of accountability to prevent further harm. We embrace and celebrate the diversity of our communities and honor the intersectionalities that thread our identities, our connectedness, and our lived experiences. As part of the movement for equality and justice, we advocate for human rights on all levels, from local to global. We value holistic wellbeing so all LGBTQ2IA people can lead healthy, thriving, authentic lives. We honor the culture bearers of our communities, creating opportunities for LGBTQ2IA cultural creation and preservation to enrich across generations. We commit to integrity in our work and relationships; sustaining trust by and for our communities. We center celebration and joy as a rejuvenating practice that elevates the journeys of the individuals and communities we serve.”
