I have always been bamboozled by the fact that Southern voters consistently vote republican, against their own best interests. As a historian, I understand why the South turned red: white voters were pissed off when Democratic President Lyndon Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act in 1964. Johnson thought the Democrats had lost the South for a generation, but 53 years later, racist sentiments linger among Southern voters.
Republican politicians have done an extremely effective job of exploiting Southern voters’ ignorance and prejudice, as well as their religion, by depicting liberals as unpatriotic and atheistic “n****r-loving” communists who think women should be treated equally and believe that sodomites have rights. The GOP has falsely positioned itself as the party of “family values” and their
Southern constituents have bought the lie, hook, line, and sinker.
Southern Republican voters have been so brainwashed, they are willing to vote for a pedophile rather than a Democrat. Enter Roy Moore, Republican candidate for the U.S. Senate from Alabama.
Moore first stepped into the national spotlight 15 years ago when he secretly had a monument of the Ten Commandments installed in the Alabama Judicial Building. Spouting his so-called Christian faith, Moore made a big fuss over the Ten Commandments Monument, all the while championing himself as a defender of Christianity. In his defense, pedophilia is not prohibited in the Ten Commandments.
Moore was twice elected to and twice removed from the Alabama Supreme Court for failing to uphold the United States Constitution. He is also the founder and president of the Foundation for Moral Law, a non-profit legal organization from which he collected more than $1 million over five years, more than the revenue the organization disclosed on its tax lings.
In addition to being a crook, Moore is also a hypocrite. Now there is nothing strange about hypocritical politicians, but Moore crosses the Rubicon of mere hypocrisy into depraved creepiness. Moore was so fond of teenage girls that local police departments were put on notice whenever he showed up at an event that included teenagers.
A retired Alabama police officer said she and her colleagues were told decades ago to “make sure” Roy Moore “didn’t hang around” high school cheerleaders, and confirmed previous reports that the Republican Senate candidate was banned at the time from a local mall for predatory behavior toward teenage girls. “We were also told to watch him at the ball games, and make sure that … he didn’t hang around the cheerleaders,” she said. Moore has admitted that he was attracted to his wife eight years before he met her, which would put her age at 15 when he first noticed her.
Yet President Trump and the Republican Governor of Alabama have endorsed Moore in his Senate race. Why? Because Jesus. In their twisted view, a pedophile is better than a Democrat. In the GOP mindset, a partisan vote supersedes everything, including child molestation. So much for family values and morality.
And why is a partisan vote so important that child rape can be overlooked? To pass corporate tax breaks, of course.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – the republican party is evil. I don’t quote the Bible often, but I will now: “The love of money is the root of all evil” 1 Timothy 6:10. And while I’m at it, here’s one for Southern voters, “”Beware of false prophets who come disguised as harmless sheep but are really vicious wolves.” Matthew 7:15.
