Merry everything.  It is the holidays in NOLA and we are dinning our gay attire.  From Here are just some of the hot events in November to put drag shows to parades, there is something to brighten up your holiday spirits.   Her are just a few events to put on your “Gaydar.” If you want your event listed, send me an email at ledgemgp@gmail.com. 

Weekly Events

Monday:

*  NOAGE New Orleans Walking Group; Lafitte Greenway; 500 N. Norman C .Francis Pkwy., New Orleans, LA; 7 p.m. NOAGE’s weekly walking group meets on Mondays at 6:00 PM. They start walking promptly at 6:00, so be sure to arrive a few minutes early.  Please consult with your primary care physician before beginning any new fitness regimen, especially if you are not used to regular exercise. 

*  Betsy Propane’s Smoke Show; The Allways Lounge & Cabaret; 2240 St. Claude Ave.; 8 – 9:30  p.m.  Betsy Propane & The Accessories are a Jazz Trio fronted by a female lead singer, who dabbles in the Ancient Art of Bump & Grind, and wants to share those powerful pipes through song & performance. *  Big Easy Stompers Line Dancing: GrandPre’s; 834 N Rampart St.; 8 – 9 p.m. The Big Easy Stompers have free dance classes every Tuesday at Grandpre’s. They have been giving dance classes to the LGBT community and general public for the last 26 years. Classes are free and start at 8:00PM and open dancing at 9:00pm. All are welcome and beginners are welcome.

• Celebration in the Oaks: City Park; New Orleans, LA; Celebration in the Oaks is an annual holiday festivity from Thanksgiving through the New Year. Enjoy one of the most spectacular holiday light shows in the country as the grounds of New Orleans City Park is transformed into 25 acres of dazzling lights and breathtaking, festive displays. The Park, Botanical Garden, Storyland and Carousel Gardens Amusement Park are all captured with hundreds of thousands of lights to create a winter wonderland here in the Big Easy. Be dazzled by illuminated oak trees with a driving tour throughout the park. Over a million lights will be scattered throughout the 2.25-mile drive to set the scene for the holiday season to come. • Prospect 6: Various Locations Around New Orleans. Historically, New Orleans has been regarded as a city deeply rooted in its past. For Prospect.6, Co-Artistic Directors Miranda Lash and Ebony G. Patterson will position New Orleans as a globally relevant point of departure for examining our collective future as it relates to climate change, legacies of colonialism, and definitions of belonging and home. Over 50 artists from around the world will contribute to Prospect.6. From November 2, 2024 to February 2, 2025, explore exhibit openings, mural unveilings, family and community programming, and more in venues across the city. Prospect is a citywide contemporary art triennial and the first exhibition of its kind in the US with a decade-long history. Every three years, they bring new art to an old city by inviting artists from all over the world to create projects in a wide variety of venues spread throughout New Orleans. Prospect.6 is brought to life through exhibit openings, mural unveilings, family and community programming, performance art, galas, parties, and more. Programming take place across venues in New Orleans, including museums, public parks, theaters, and universities. Participating venues thus far include the Ogden Museum of Southern Art, New Orleans African American Museum, New Marigny Theatre, Contemporary Arts Center, Merchant House, Xavier University Art Gallery, Tulane University Freeman Auditorium, and Harmony Circle. • World AIDS Day Exhibition: Dodwell House; 1519 Esplanade Ave., New O leans, LA; 12 – 4 p.m. Join the LGBT+ Archives Project of Louisiana at an exhibition to commemorate World AIDS Day. This exhibition features three components: Panels of the AIDS Memorial Quilt (focused on those we’ve lost from Louisiana) “Standing on the Shoulders of Heroes” – an exhibit that introduces visitors to individuals that have had incredible impacts on the LGBTQIA+ community throughout history. “Never Silent” – takes attendees through an emotional journey of LGBTQIA+ history, one that highlights both historic steps forward as well as the dangerous realities members of the community face today. This event is free, and is open to the public. Registration is not required. This event is part of the Archives Project’s ongoing series of events documenting the history of HIV/AIDS in New Orleans: The New Orleans AIDS Memory Project (NOAMP).

Join us in December for our Meowy Catmas Special – these purrformances are JUST FOR MEW ORLEANS! Celebrate Catmas with us by watching cats jump through wreaths, ride in Santa’s sleigh, and purrform an array of other seasonal tricks. Our real rescued house cats delight and amaze audiences of all ages! There will also be a special appearance by The Rock Cats (the only cat band in the entire WORLD!) playing seasonal holiday selections such as “Have Yourself a Meowy Little Catmas,” “Catnip Roasting on an Open Fire,” and “Santa Claws is Coming to Town” (songs might not be performed as described). Our Amazing Acro-Cats bus is also a mobile fostering unit for Rock Cats Rescue, helping cats and kittens across the nation find their furrever homes. Proceeds always benefit our cause of foster and rescue. Rock Cats Rescue has fostered and found homes for hundreds of cats and kittens, many of them from Mew Orleans! For the 19th year in a row, in an intimate evening full of music, laughter, and special guests, critically acclaimed vocalist Judith Owen and her husband, actor, and humorist  Harry Shearer (The Simpsons, Spinal Tap), will once again spread their special brand of yuletide cheer for the 2024 Christmas Without Tears, at home in New Orleans!  Festivities will take place Tuesday, December 17th at 8 pm at the Orpheum Theater, with all proceeds benefitting Innocence Project New Orleans. A tradition that began in Shearer and  Owen’s Santa Monica home, these annual gatherings have grown into a heartwarming house party around the piano that involves and entertains fellow performers and audience members alike. Since 2005, when the first public performance was staged at the Walt Disney Concert Hall to aid the people of New Orleans after The flood, Christmas Without  Tears has been a guilt-free way of having fun and giving back:  ALL proceeds go to charities, with this year’s New Orleans performance benefiting Innocence Project New Orleans. A reverent and irreverent antidote to the most stressful of seasons, the evening includes both invited performers and surprise guests who drop into Harry and Judith’s onstage living room and share a song or a joke to bring the holiday spirit to all. Song selections range from the sentimental (“Winter Wonderland” and  “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas”) to the irreverent (“F&*k  Christmas” and “Jesus Was a Dreidel Spinner”).
