Wendell Steve Stipelcovich passed away on Thursday, April 7, 2022, at the age of 81. He was born on December 26, 1940, in Buras, LA. He was a graduate of Buras High School and furthered his education in general banking from American Institute of Banking and in business administration from Meadows-Draughon Business College. He began his business career at Delta Bank, in Port Sulphur, 63 years ago.
In the mid-1960s, Mr. Stipelcovich decided he wanted to live and work in New Orleans. Following many successful professional accomplishments, he opened Wendell’s Restaurant and Bar on Esplanade Avenue in 1984, which he operated for six years. Thereafter, he became a much-loved certified caregiver.

Mr. Stipelcovich also loved Mardi Gras and in 1968 co-founded the Krewe of Armeinius. Serving as Captain, he led the Krewe in producing its first Mardi Gras Ball in 1969. He also served as Captain in 1970, 1974, 1978, and 1981, and was Queen Armeinius in 1972. In 2015, the Krewe of Armeinius granted him the title of “Honorary Member for Life”.
Possessed of a quick wit, a generous heart, and a strong spirit, Mr. Stipelcovich will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Visitation at Mothe Funeral Home (7040 Lapalco Blvd., Marrero), on Saturday, April 16, from 11am until the Funeral Service begins at 1pm.
