Party Down July 30, 2019

July 30, 2019 By Tony Leggio

After coming off my amazing adventure in New York, I had to play catch up at work and just life.  I also had two very excited little miniature dachshunds ready to see me, so I basically was a homebody for the beginning of the week.  Then the Hurricane-that-wasn’t Barry cast a damper on the weekend.  I did manage to venture out for happy hour on Friday at The … [Read more...] about Party Down July 30, 2019

Bartender of the Month: Kyle Simmons

July 16, 2019 By Tony Leggio

Kyle Simmons bartending at Sipps Bar in Gulfport

This is my second in a series of Bartender of the Month spotlighting bartenders at Sipps Bar in Gulfport.  Kyle Simmons has been a part of the Sipps team for two years.  Unlike many stressful jobs he has had in the past, Kyle says being a bartender at Sipps is wonderful.  He is part of a community and family.  He fell in love with the place and the city. … [Read more...] about Bartender of the Month: Kyle Simmons

Party Down July 16, 2019

July 16, 2019 By Tony Leggio

New Orleans is one of those cities that’s known for its good times and parties.  But I was able to attend a monumental event in an incredible city followed by another special occasion in another city for some wonderful people.  Talk about Ambush on the Road.  I was humbled and truly honored to attend World Pride in New York followed by the wedding of New Orleans … [Read more...] about Party Down July 16, 2019

Book of the Month: Augur of Shadows

July 16, 2019 By Tony Leggio

Gay science fiction/horror seems to be a trend of mine lately.  My book for the month of July is Augur of Shadows by Jacob Rundle.  It is Book One in the Destined series.   Jacob John Rundle was born in 1985, in Galesburg, IL. He attended Knox College, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Russian Language and Literature. He served eight years in the United States … [Read more...] about Book of the Month: Augur of Shadows

Party Down July 2, 2019

AARP and NOAGE ‘Movies for Adults’ series when they showed the Elton John biopic Rocketman

I always know my week is going to start off well when I get the opportunity to attend the NOAGE Walking group on Monday.  Once a week, the New Orleans Advocates for LGBT Elders walks the track at Audubon Park starting at 6:45 p.m.  It’s not so hot in the evening and the park is just gorgeous.  Something about exercising in a beautiful environment that just … [Read more...] about Party Down July 2, 2019

Movie Review: Spider-Man: Far From Home

July 2, 2019 By Tony Leggio

Are your spidey senses tingling or, better yet, your Peter Tingle? They will be soon with the release of the newest entry to the Marvel Universe, Spider-Man: Far From Home.  Directed by Jon Watts and written by Chris McKenna & Erik Sommers, this latest entry is the sequel to 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming and the twenty-third film in the Marvel Cinematic … [Read more...] about Movie Review: Spider-Man: Far From Home

Party Down June 4, 2019

June 4, 2019 By Tony Leggio

Ever since I was a child, I have always loved summers in New Orleans. And as I have grown older, I still enjoy them, but I’ve married that with the much-needed love of air conditioning. During the summer months, I always feel like I am stepping into a Tennessee Williams play each time I leave my house. I have a new appreciation of hand fans and parasols. I do declare! But even … [Read more...] about Party Down June 4, 2019

Under the Gaydar

March 5, 2018 By Tony Leggio

It seems like forever since my last Under the Gaydar article but it has only been a few mere months. As you grow older, time becomes a much more precious commodity and life has a way demonstrating that in spades. I remember when I first approached Rip about writing a column for Ambush. I wanted to promote and covering the events both gay and straight in our city. Rip and … [Read more...] about Under the Gaydar

Under the Gaydar

March 1, 2018 By Tony Leggio

Community Spotlight As Ambush enters it’s new phase, I wanted to change some of the focus of this monthly column which used to focus the Bartender of the month. But I wanted to expand on my recognition of deserving individuals in this column. You will still see bartenders featured, but I will also feature other service industry professionals such as waiters, hotel employees … [Read more...] about Under the Gaydar
