On Friday, February 27, 6–9 pm, the New Orleans Museum of Art’s Teen Art Council takes over the museum for a night celebrating youth, creativity, and connection. Inspired by the exhibition Hayward Oubre: Structural Integrity, this year’s event—with the theme “Sound and Color”—features opportunities for teens to engage with the exhibition, relax with friends, and connect with other creative teens from across the city. Admission is free for all teenagers.

The event will feature live music from local, teen-led band Beverly Hills Polo Club, an exploration of the museum and current exhibitions when the museum is normally closed to the public, art-making activities inspired by the exhibition Hayward Oubre: Structural Integrity, opportunities to connect with local HBCUs including Xavier University of Louisiana, Dillard University, and Southern University at New Orleans, a raffle for prizes from the NOMA Museum Shop and other organizations, and food available for purchase from Crêpes à la Carte and light bites from Café NOMA.
The annual Teen Takeover event offers the opportunity for NOMA’s Teen Art Council to design an evening at the museum to specifically engage their peers and share their experiences of the museum.
NOMA’s Teen Art Council (TAC) is a group of creative high school students and teen leaders passionate about art and community engagement. Participants meet at the museum every week, gaining behind-the-scenes access to museum collections, exhibitions, and programming. TAC participants develop workplace and team-building skills, assist with planning the annual Teen Takeover, and explore career options through interactions with NOMA staff.

Admission and programming are free for teens. Advance registration is encouraged. Only adults affiliated with a teen attendee are permitted to attend.
