NOAGE is hosting a Symposium on LGBTQ+ Health and Wellness on Saturday, May 16 at the Ochsner Center for Academic Excellence.
Last year, NOAGE’s symposium at the same venue was focused specifically on issues related to aging. This year’s event will feature a variety of speakers (healthcare professionals, community leaders, etc.) presenting on various topics related to LGBTQ+ health and wellness across the lifespan.
This event is free for members of the community, but registration is required. Breakfast and lunch will be provided.
Topics and presenters include:
- Body Image: Jim Meadows, LMSW (NOAGE)
- Women’s Health and Wellness: Nikki Alexander-Tumblin, AAS (New Orleans Black Pride)
- Legal Issues: Laura Fine, JD (Law Firm of Session, Fishman & Nathan)
- Community Care at the End of Life: Liz Dunneback, BA, and Laurie Dietrich, BA (Wake)
- The Benefits of Social Connection and Community Engagement: Brian La Bella, LCSW-BACS, and Jim Meadows, LMSW (NOAGE)
The lunchtime session will be presented by Kieta Mutepfa, Senior Community Liaison at Gilead Sciences.
In addition to the presentations, there will be a resource fair featuring information/outreach tables on various health/wellness topics and organizations.
Continuing education credits are available for social workers and licensed professional counselors who attend (excluding the lunchtime session).
