We’ve Rebranded!
A little over two years ago, everyone at NOAGE was very proud when we became an affiliate (the first and only one in the Deep South) of SAGE, the world’s oldest and largest organization devoted to services and advocacy for LGBTQ+ older adults. However, several months ago we were informed that SAGE has made the decision to discontinue their current affiliate structure. By the end of this year, there will no longer be SAGE affiliates in any part of the United States, other than in New York and Florida.
Although they have not yet made any public announcements about this change, SAGE has notified current affiliate leaders that they are working to develop a new partnership model that they plan to announce later this year. We look forward to continuing our working relationship with them (albiet in a different form), and we appreciate the ongoing support from their Director of Coalition and Capacity Building, Reynaldo Mireles, as we make this transition. (On a personal note, I am deeply grateful for all the relationships I’ve developed with so many amazing people – too numerous to mention! – at SAGE and its affiliate organizations.)
While this development was unexpected, NOAGE is very pleased to view it as an opportunity to strengthen our current partnerships with local organizations and groups, and to develop new ones. We remain fully committed to our mission of ensuring that LGBTQ+ older adults in the New Orleans metro area can live their best possible lives with the dignity, respect, and good health that they deserve. So, although we will no longer be a SAGE affiliate, NOAGE isn’t going anywhere!
NOAGE Board Election Results
Last month, we hosted our annual supporting membership appreciation party and board elections at CrescentCare. Members of the 2022 NOAGE Board of Directors include: Frank Abbruscato, Derrin Bergeron, Tyra Ellis, Joe Kimbrell, Christin Lawrence, Tony Leggio, Jeff Morgan, Laurie Richmond, Rodney Thoulion, and Ed Trapido. (New officer positions will be announced next month.)

Walking Group
Mondays at 6:00PM, at Audubon Park, 6500 Magazine St., New Orleans, LA
Our weekly walking group meets in the parking area on the Magazine St. entrance to Audubon Park’s jogging path. We start walking promptly at 6:00PM, and parking is limited due to road work in the area, so be sure to arrive a little early.
