A Midsummer Night's Dream at Tulane’s Lupin Theater through July 27 A mere two years after The NOLA Project Gave us a most magical Dream in City Park, To the Tulane Shakespeare Festival’s current Dream, I must object Not just because its stage, when Fairies dwell upon it, is often too, too dark, But, rather, because it tells us nothing terribly new, Its cast members unable … [Read more...] about Trodding the Boards July 25, 2025

Some Notes on Grief and Gratitude
Acquaintances when I see them: “How are you doing?” Me (usually) prior to November 5, 2024: “Pretty good, how about you?” That little bit of small talk is so ubiquitous that I usually don’t give it much thought. But this has been such a terrible year in so many ways that when people ask me the question now, I have to take a second to think about how to answer it … [Read more...] about Some Notes on Grief and Gratitude

Ambush Goes Worldwide
June is recognized as Pride Month globally. I had the privilege of attending a significant celebration in the United States, which is a rare occurrence in our nation. This year, World Pride took place in Washington DC, marking only the second time it has been hosted in the US, the first being in New York in 2019. Established in 1997, WorldPride's inaugural city was Rome in … [Read more...] about Ambush Goes Worldwide

Movie Review: Big Easy Queens
I love horror movies and drag queens, so I was very excited about seeing the new Advocate Originals’ Big Easy Queens now available for streaming on Hulu. It serves as an excellent watch for Pride month or any time of the year. Being a native of New Orleans, I was particularly excited to observe how they portray a film centered around NOLA. Although the movie is set in New … [Read more...] about Movie Review: Big Easy Queens

Trodding the Boards June 27, 2025
Critic’s Notebook Summer Lyric Theatre (SLT) presented a near perfect production of A Chorus Line at Tulane’s Dixon Hall recently (June 19-22); it probably would’ve been perfect had not some of the mylar on the panels standing in for rehearsal hall mirrors gotten distractingly scrunched up (at least at the performance I attended; I trust that was corrected for the rest of … [Read more...] about Trodding the Boards June 27, 2025
