The Consulate General of France is set to host a photographic exhibition showcasing the Rougaroux, New Orleans’ first LGBT+ rugby team. The exhibition, titled “One More Game,” opens ahead of the Paris 2024 Olympics Games, on Tuesday, June 25, at 6:00pm in the Garden District at the Résidence de France, 2406 Prytania St, New Orleans, LA 70130. The opening reception is open to the public.
Photographer Camille Lenain’s exhibition is a celebration of inclusion and diversity in sports. The exhibit is part of a worldwide initiative created by French photographer Emilien Buffard, “Sports Friendly.” Lenain’s work features players’ personal testimonies about their journeys toward the Rougaroux and how the team has influenced their lives. Lenain’s intimate approach highlights the joyful and stimulating environment of the field and invites the players to reflect on their own experiences.
Camille Farrah Lenain is a French-Algerian documentary photographer who grew up in Paris, studied Photography at l’ESA “le 75” in Brussels and at ICP in New York City. She relocated to New Orleans in 2013, where she works on long-term projects that challenge societal preconceptions, exploring the notions of stereotypes, collective memory, and plural identities. In 2024, she was the USA winner for the Leica Women Photo Prize. Her photographs have been exhibited internationally, including at the Ogden Museum of Southern Art, the Arab World Institute, Photoville and Les Rencontres d’Arles. She was previously an Artist-in-Residence at the Joan Mitchell Center.
This exhibition is made possible thanks to the generous support of Intervalle Capital, Villa Albertine, the Consulate General of France in New Orleans, and the Alliance Francaise of New Orleans. It will be on view at the Résidence de France through the summer.
